So... There's a local band called Toast Machine and the bassist for the band was my mentor for a while. He's probably one of the coolest dudes I know, and I wanted to make him a Toast Machine...
A toast machine is this:

I was thinking of getting a normal chrome metal toaster, gutting it, and getting a toy (and here's the best part...) RC tank to use for the base. I wanted to do more, though... I want to add more of the details. The slices of toast with rockets coming out, the spikes on the front, exhaust pipes, the curved uh, pushbar or whatever it's called.
So I'm asking you all for ideas on how to get those details. They need to be to scale to your average toaster. Also where I can get a tank that will be proportional to your average toaster.
Materials suggestsions, Painting techniques suggestions (I want to make the toast look like, well, toast. it won't actually be toast, but if it looks more like toast, the better), etc. It doesn't have to be 100% true (I don't think I'd be able to find an RC tank with treads like the one on the toast machine, as well as the fact that the toaster I use will probably be more curved...).
Cheers.
EDIT:
I will be using this (http://www.amazon.com/Proctor-Silex-22605-2-Slice-Toaster/dp/B00064W93G/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1230284756&sr=8-5) toaster. (Cheapest I can find and it matches the image pretty well). The toaster's base is 11.7inx7.7in.
EDIT:
And I'm thinking about this (http://www.amazon.com/WORLD-TRADING-Abrams-Battle-Tank/dp/B001D8NQY0/ref=pd_cp_e_0?pf_rd_p=413863501&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0011DPPN2&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0V1KRN178KVDQQAFFXFD) tank. Rated well, good size It'll be a good 8 inches longer and 3 inches wider than the toaster... but I can use some styrene or something to solve that problem pretty easy. Also it can shoot airsoft BBs and if I align the barrel right, i could have it shoot out the gap for the "pushbar" on the toaster. I think Gio would get a kick out of that.
Ideas?
