Hi, im probably not gonna mod this.. unless somehow I get parts, but I gutted a 1984 portable Sanyo tv. Here are some crappy webcam pics(didn't install cam software for better picture :( )

The front/side/top:

The front:

The top: (has a handle to carry, there are air vents within)

The back:

Cant see this area good, but it flips down to where the controls were, which is enough space to put a cd/dvd drive and a power switch.

You know what would be a great use for this box? A MythTV (http://www.mythtv.org/) box! It would be fantastic!

What was the screen size on the TV?

About 6 inches high and 8 inches wide.

the best part about a MythTV box is you cn route the video out to your other TVs, it would work like a Media Center box, basically. It acts as a DVR, MP3 center, image center and more.

Lol, it's not like I'm working for them! lol.

I just think it's a cool project. I'm a big fan of media center computer capability, and think that this would be a perfect way to incorporate it.

By the way, the guys over at Systm (.org? I don't remember he extension) did a video walkthrough of setting up a MythTV. Might be useful if you do decide to pursue this method.

Aint that the truth.. I was hoping that once Kevin Rose left G4 he was going to hit this trail hard and heavy. But I think he figured out its harder to pay the bills with this then he thought.. Now don't get me wrong.. I think that what they are doing is awsome. The idea of being able to talk about topics that aren't driven by sponsors and networks, open up a whole new world of media. The ability to get unjaded reviews about products and to be able to have topics that aren't geared towards the 15 year old average gamer is great. I hope that we see alot more people following this thought. With IP TV and Podcasting I think the Big Media companies are going to get a real wakeup call.. :)

Also if you like the idea of Myth and are uncomfortable with linux, there is a windows alternative called MediaPortal (http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net/). Its an open source free project as well. Or there is also KnopMyth..

Ok I am finished now and have stepped off of my soap box..

Well, I think Kevin may have found out that it's not that hard to pay his bills. Digg received $2.8 million in intial investments in October, and there are heavy rumors flying around that they are about go get bought in the mad sweep Yahoo! and Fox are running now (Yahoo! jsut bought del.icio.us, Flickr and Upcoming.org, and Fox just bought Myspace).

My bad.. I should have specified that I was talking about Systm. I didn't mean to imply that Kevin would have problems paying the bills. Digg has been going strong since before Systm. When you have a money maker like Digg running its probably hard to dedicate time to something that isn't as profitable. The Diggnation pod and vidcasts probably eat up a fair amount of time, and they have the most visibility, being on iTunes and now TiVO. So I can see that Systm would have to take a back burner to that.. Either way he is doing cool things, and I hope he keeps it up..

Maybe he'll make a ton of money off of Digg and put that back into Systm.. That would be cool!! ;)

Yeah, both Alex and Kevin are super busy any more. Kevin appears on a number of podcasts, including Twit, so it's not exactly surprising that they're not producing more. I think they're looking at increasing the staff, and working with the Pixel Corps. to help produce more Systm episodes, but that's mostly rumors.
