Hi, I have a compaq presario sr1403wm. So basically i finaly got it to boot up becuase before i could not even get it to start windows but I used my windows cd from my compaq laptop to reinstall windows, but it still seems very buggy. My conclusion is that I should just purchase a new hard drive, but idk what to get and im scared that it will not work with the computer. I also want vista on it but I do not have a vista cd, do these new hard drives have it installed on it? Also, I only need a decent hd, nothing too crazy. I only want to play games, browse the web, and save some files, can anyone recommend me a good one?

Thanks,
Vitaliy

You should be able to get any SATA drive which has a jumper to limit it to SATA150 (SATA I) speeds. However, that may not be your computer's issue. What type of bugs are you experiencing? The windows CD from your laptop is not the best disc to use, do you have the recovery disk for your desktop?

Also, when you buy a new hard drive, it will have nothing on it. You will have to make a partition and format it before you can use it.

I kinda want to make a nice computer by giving it a new system to run on and other stuff instead of buying a new computer.

The disk I have is from my compaq laptop, but it is xp.

So if I get a new hard drive will I be able to just pop in that cd and put xp on it will that work? And I might get a vista installation disk.

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure if you'll be able to pop in that CD, however, you can try providing you have a valid XP license for the machine you're looking at installing it onto. But if it's a new system, It's best to just buy a copy of Vista and put it on there.
