What's your Windows Experience Index Score in Vista?
Here's my new Quad score (whenever it works right)

And the more detailed look. I can't believe my hard drive ruins it!

What hard drive gives you a 5.9?

Probably a 10k-15k rpm drive with big cache. :) Or a raid setup.. or combination of both. Oh, or maybe an SSD?

Mine is 5.4 my hard disk is letting me down as the lowest score of any item is your system score. If it wasnt for that I would be a 5.9.

Shouldn't it be a average and not the lowest score?

No, because if your store is low, it's held back by it's weakest link.

On my laptop(only Vista machine I have, and will be the only one for that matter (I don't plan on building a new windows box until Windows 7)), only 3.5, limited by the Intel GM965 chipset/x3100 graphics. Yeah integrated graphics are weak, but I do enjoy the 5+ hours of battery life.
CPU: 5.6
RAM: 5.0
Graphics: 3.5
Gaming graphics: 3.5
Primary hard disk: 4.7

I get 5.4 thanks to my HDD, everything else is 5.9. Time to get my Raptor/SSD and a Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB lol.

Wait a bit, the SanDisk SSDs are coming out and they're pricing seems to be getting close to VERY affordable, not quite there yet!

I have been looking into the SSDs and it seems that the only ones worth getting are the Intel ones, the other brands can be beaten by a standard mechanical drive. I will settle for a 74GB raptor I think, if I can find one lol. I still have a while to think about it, SSDs lose performance over time and need to be formatted frequently to stay at optimum performance, I am looking for a plug in and walk away drive lol.

A raptor or a Samsung Spinpoint F1 should give you around that also, so will an SSD.

SSD's can wait a couple years when they're as expensive as regular drives
i fudged my score when i had vista installed, i tricked it into saying i had a score of 8!
shame i haven't got a print screen,
howto:
1) Navigate to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore
2) You should see a .xml file with date&time as filename
3) Right-click it and select 'open with>' 'Wordpad' (Not notepad!)
4) On line 12, you should see something like the following:
< -SystemScore ->8.8< /SystemScore >
< -MemoryScore ->8.8< /MemoryScore >
< -CpuScore ->8.8< /CpuScore >
< -CPUSubAggScore ->8.8< /CPUSubAggScore >
< -VideoEncodeScore ->8.8< /VideoEncodeScore >
< -GraphicsScore ->8.9< /GraphicsScore >
< -GamingScore ->8.8< /GamingScore >
< -DiskScore ->8.8< /DiskScore >
5)The score i marked red above is your current rating score
6) Now modify any score you want according to it's section.
7) Save it.
Now have a look on your latest rating score!

+Rep for sure. That is funny
EDIT:
It won't let me save the file.:(
you need to open the file with admin privilages, ie start notepad in admin mode, you might even need to load in safe mode, but as far as i can rem its just admin needed to do it
HAHA, trust XcOM to find a way around the Vista score lol.
trust me, if windows isn't supposed to do it, i can more than likely get it to work, i was known at school and most previous jobs and the computer god.
Mainly because i can edit the windows code (Kernel included)

Its not accurate at all. My wifes brother gets a 1.0 with his 8800 gts 640mb card. latest drivers, plays all games beautifully, but vista doesnt seem to like it. i mean, my laptop gets a 3.0 with its crummy video card.

If it's a one, it must be having a problem recognising it. Sometimes it will do that, then, later, out of nowhere, it turns to a 5.9.

According to Microsoft a PC with a total score of 3 can run Vista with Aero on at a res of 1280x1024, any score higher than 3 should be able to run Vista with all features enabled. So either way we all win haha.

I get a 5.9 on my system with a seagate harddisk.
Windows 7 has a score out of 7.9 instead of 5.9 (without modding the XML File). It also means that my PATA disk that used to score 3.9 in vista now scores 2.0 in windows 7 because they are expecting more improvements in hardware.
The windows 7 WINSAT test takes longer than the Vista WINSAT test. I know it tests DirectX10 stuff as well, but it takes over twice as long for me :hurt:

Did he "refresh scores" after he loaded all the drivers?
