starting at 900 big ones for something you probably can't type on.

It seems that pretty much all netbooks are about the same in hardware, its just the aesthetics that change.
1.3Ghz processor? That better not be an atom then?? They are underpowered enough as it is. The 2GB of DDR2 is kind of nice though, although for what sony usually charges for their products you could pick up any other netbook and still have enough for a 2nd gig of ram. Kind of a small HDD at 60GB, but the 128GB SSD is nice, although I bet an a large extra fee. If "up to 4 hours" of battery life is what they are listing, I can't wait to see how much it actually gets. It is really thin and pretty small though (liking the first one, not the second one. 10" is the lowest I would go).
For how much?? Good god no. You got to be kidding me Sony...
I would rather pick one of these up ANY day of the week over that thing.

I saw that Sony listed on Engadget the other day.. you are paying for the weight and style more than anything else. It's not supposed to be powerful, it's supposed to be uber-light. 1.4lbs beats the hell out of everything, including the 7" eeePC. Up-size the battery, and you've got close to 8 hours of life.
ALSO, I just noticed the built in bluetooth with A2DP support (stereo audio), integrated Mobile WAN (cell signal = high speed internet), and 1600x768 resolution. This thing is a little wonder!
Yes, it's pricey, but it's so much more than an EEE.

Alright, how about this then?

Its kind of ugly and its a little bit heavier, but overall its pretty acceptable for what you're getting. All at a hundred less than the Sony.
But I guess it depends on the person. Some people just want a super light, sexy looking netbook, which is pretty much the Sony. But meh, idk, I guess I'm just one of those people who either want it all or at least have something thats nice evenly across the board. The Sony looks fantastic and is pretty damn light, but its features really aren't that great. The Asus looks only alright, not ugly, but just kind of meh, but stat wise its freaking sweet!
Too bad its Sony, if it was another brand it would of probably been more affordable. If it was maybe $300+ less I would be more interested. $900 for a netbook is already quite a bit to pay, let alone for an underwhelming one. We already have one Apple, we don't really need another. That is to say, I'm all for the sexiness factor, but come on, are you really going to charge THAT much just for sexiness and lightness alone??

I don't care about 'sexiness' of a machine. I just care:
-If I can afford it
-If it's practical
-How much modding can I get away with before I void the warrenty

That is one expensive but nice looking machine. If it were cheaper I would potentially buy it but yeah, lol. But at that price all it is to me is eyecandy. ಠ_ಠ

If you want a useless, thin, light notebook, this is still a better choice than the Macbook Air.

But at least it has a Core 2 Duo, nVidia 9400M, ...and... uhm... well at least it has that right? lol
I don't know, its really not that bad. Its definitely missing some things that should not be missing, even with a netbook, but I think its still a fairly doable device as-is.
But even with the C2D and 9400M, its still not worth what they are asking. Even for Apple that seems to still be asking quite a bit. I would say $1499 would be a better price, $1299 would be just about a steal for a Apple product. But I wouldn't consider getting one until it was down to at least $999, although I might be tempted at $1099-$1199.
But for $1799, I'd rather get the Voodoo Envy. That little baby is just pure ****ing sexy!
Although I think the Eee 1002HA (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220480) is pretty sexy too, especially at only $479! I was going to buy one today, but apparently I missed a couple days so I'm about $70 short. LAME. Now I have to wait two more freaking weeks. ><

LOL no joke. I love how where ever you go Apple has their own section. Take mp3 players on Newegg for example. There are MP3 Players and then there are iPods.
or like their commercials...
Hi. I'm a Mac.
and I'm a PC.
...and I'm not retarded, you are both PC's!
lol

And.... now I'm $140 short because my mouse "died" and I'm now browsing with my keyboard. Sweet! So I bought the Logitech VX Nano (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104080) and overnighted it. So it should be here tomorrow! Yay! I'm looking at it like this. It is in fact a very sexy and very sweet mouse and it was in fact around $70 when it first came out... so... I'll just pretend I paid full original retail price, as I'm sure it would be at say Best Buy, and I got free overnight shipping. Yep, I'm in denial and my wallet is crying. lol

Oh, I figured out why it costs so much. If you look real close at the lid it says: Sony

If you had to look closely, it would defeat the entire purpose!

Not just because of the CPU, but the chipset as well. And I don't know about them being limited to OSX and windows :P

Look up "bootcamp" on Google. :) Well, maybe include Apple in that search too

I don't get it.
PC, by definition, is personal computer (as opposed to laptop or anything else).
in recent years, it's become associated with the Windows OS, but PC != always windows.
Macs, regardless of OS or architecture (though with the i386/Intel architecture and CPUs they run now, are closer to what most people call "PCs") are still personal computers.
Mac people seem to be fed this idea that their computer isn't a PC just because it's got a big shiny apple logo on it. That's not the case.

What are you talking about? My Macbook is NOT a damn PC! AND, the logo isn't shiny, it's glowy! ;)
As for the Sony, its nice. Expensive, but its to be expected for its size and weight. Those might not mean a lot to some people, but many would pay the premium to get that.
