Okay I still haven't really started, though a clear plan is finally forming for my CD Player mod (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16521).

Question one is a two-parter:
1a. Since the case is a little banged up I was thinking of giving it a fresh coat of paint. Probably silver. Is Rustoleum the paint of choice? I want to paint the metal case as well as the plastic façade (and possibly the buttons).

1b. What kind of prep is needed (sanding/cleaning) and will I need a clear coat on top to prevent the colour from rubbing off?

Question two is about the buttons on the case:
2. Can I somehow use these to control a media player? Mainly I'm considering the ones in the top-right area (play/pause, stop, <<, >>, volume+/-...). I think I might remove and smooth over some other buttons (or make them LED light windows).

Thanks:banana:

I don't own or plan to get an airbrush... isn't there a spray can solution?:?

It's not all about airbrushing, there are alot of good tips in there.

Oh, I see  Sorry. That link was an excellent help, I think I'm ready for paint.

Still though, the buttons question:

These are the switches in behind the buttons on the facade of the CD player (or any electronic device these days, I guess). Is there a way I can use them to interface with the PC? Ideally I'd like to map them as controls for a media player. I don't know much about wiring and interfacing with the PC. I'm sure I can manage the soldering.
