Well I broke it over a year ago. Let's just say ice and a parking lot :-/ I called HP to see what it would take to replace it and they said $600 so needless to say it's been sitting on my desk since then. HP also refuses to send me a replacement bulb and everything (because of the lead and mercury, when I deal with worse stuff on a day to day basis -_-) Does anyone know where I could get a replacement one? I've seen a few sites but the part numbers and stuff on them are greek to me. The laptop model is a DV9000 (which seems HUGE compared to my new dinky little DV2000 lol) Does anyone know a little about backlights and how to replace them?

I think I'll just have to break the whole thing down and see if it's one or two CCFLs unless someone else has gone through this? It's a DV9535nr

Is it the 17" DV9000? If so... CLICK ME! (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-LCD-CCFL-BACKLIGHT-LAMP-HP-PAVILLION-DV9000-17%22WXGA_W0QQitemZ180315438122QQcmdZViewItemQQims xZ20081221?IMSfp=TL081221111008r38633)

It's just a standard CCFL tube in there (only smaller), so as long as the ballast is ok, this could be a very cheap fix. :)

Yeah, I ran across those. Thanks for the reassurance ;] Going to pop it open as soon as I find my freaking screwdrivers and see if that's all I'll need before anything else. I think it's just the CCFL but I can't be positive without seeing it.

Can you see anything on the screen, and its just dark? If so, definitely the backlight.

Yeah, I can see a FAINT HP logo when I turn it on, which is white on black. After that though there's not as much contrast in the colours so I can't see a thing. But I have plugged it into another monitor to make sure nothing else is broken and it all runs perfectly fine.

oh yea sounds like the bulbs if you can see the picture still. there pretty much pop n swap as long as you know the size is correct voltage and amperage.

good luck man!

You might want to make sure that the power cord is plugged into the board first, but the LCD panel seems to be getting power.

so after i got the whole thing taken apart before tearing into the actual LCD panel to check on the backlight i figured i'd try checking all of the connections and plugging it in and BAM it worked. so i put it back together and i'm posting from it now :D cheapest repair EVER

Whats sad is if you had sent it in they would have just fixed it and probably charged you the same price as a new Backlight
