...........

EDIT: Didn't they kinda skip say.... 60gig-1.5tb? I'm sure this chip will be in the thousands of dollars so hopefully some 250gigs will be headed our way at a reasonable price. :)

Nice, I could put all my DVDs and my music into my Dash and have it all to watch and read when I wanted on the go. Probably to rich for me though.

If these chips are affordable.... then I guess we know what someone will do!

He speaks the truth. I would use my chip mostly as a portable hdd. The rest would go towards music.

dude, if these became affordable in the next 5-10 years, I'll have computers in EVERYTHING (especially my car, complete with touchscreen so I can navigate through Winamp/Foobar/iTunes/whatever)

If they're about to spit out a 2tb mico... it makes you wonder how long they hold back product. They're probably laughing their asses off at us buying 16gig chips for 35 bucks.

They have already made a 1TB SSD:

Seagate already make a 1.5TB drive and WD have a 2TB drive in the pipes but a 2TB card for a phone is plane stupid lol. I know my phone can only take 512MB max, this upper market phones taking a couple of GB.

i dont think its stupid at all... haha a pico itx board with a 2tb microSD card for storage for my car sounds awesome. :D

That is a good point, I never though of it being used for something like that.

I was more thinking of some companies making a MicroSDXC to SATA converter (maybe taking a few MicroSDXC cards and put them in RAID 0).

Nice link but I'm not sure why you're bringing up 2.5" form factors haha. On a side note, I hope that brings down the price of these tiny 2.5 SSDs.

Also, most new smartphones can handle up to 32+gigs. which means by the time these chips are out, they will be able to handle at the very least, double that. 2TBs? That seems a little out of reach for 2009 as far as phone compatibility is concerned but then again, according to the article, the 2TB micro's aren't expected to be out in 2009.

I was just bringing the SSD in as comparison. We were talking about never before seen large capacity storage anyway weren't we ;).

I suppose that's possible, but what about just getting some usb card readers, and building a big RAID setup that way?

Just when I mention it they release it lol.
WD 2TB HDD:

This should bring down the price of other mechanical drives slightly.

Tried getting fast transfer speeds with USB? Tried setting up a USB drive RAID in windows? ;P

I doubt we will see 2TB SDXC cards ANY time soon. I'd give that 8-10 years, but who knows. It's just that the spec has been set to handle 2TB cards.

Still, that would be crazy to have 2TB in super small cards. You could have a petabyte in like what, a shoebox?

Could you imagine?

It's actually kind of annoying how fast this is taking off... It's pathetic to spend tons of money on a product only to see it in the bargain bin 4 months later. :dead:
