Yep, a poll would be nice. Go to thread tools and click add poll. ^_^
My vote goes toward Windows 7. I have a pretty good feeling about it for some reason. I'm getting kind of tired with boring old XP anyways, as reliable and fairly lightweight as it is. But I have a feeling that Windows 7, although will have plenty of bugs at first, will become the new preferred choice of OS, offering what XP offers and then so much more.

Yea I kind of feel like Vista was the beta for Windows 7, so cheers to hoping that I'm basically right, which I kind of feel like I am. Windows 7 seems to be pretty much an advanced version of Vista so far.

I've been reading a lot about how W7 will not be an upgraded version of Vista. I don't think we would call 98 to XP just a simple upgrade, and yet those two operating systems work on the same architecture. For Vista, Microsoft rebuilt the architecture. W7 is built on the same architecture, but will not just be a re-release of a better version of Vista. That I can promise. People who have been demoing W7 all agree that they have taken the best elements from Vista, and included them in W7, but that it is a completely new Windows.

In all honesty Windows 7 is just Windows Vista SP2, and everything Windows Vista should have been. So, in that respect, Windows 7 is definitely the winner and I will be installing it for good shortly after it comes out. Microsoft "went back" to the 3 year OS turnaround in order to rebrand their system and get away from the Vista stigma.
In my opinion they have turned around really well though. Besides the flashy-ness of the OS (which I actually love), they went away from stupid product names, they created positive anticipation, they released a public beta to create more anticipation, and they are actually proving that they are listening to users as evidenced by the UAC, connectivity features, drivers, and the installation process. All in all, even if it is just Vista SP2, I'm very, very happy with it.

you make a valid point, but i've just ripped the kernels apart, please see this post (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showpost.php?p=226049&postcount=61)

Well of course they took the best of Vista and cranked up the performance. Saying 7 is Vista SP2 wasn't meant to be taken literally. I would say Vista->7 is similar to 2000->ME, maybe. But Vista->7 is no where near the change that happened with XP->Vista, which is what I was hinting at.
Glad someone here ripped apart the kernels though, I hadn't felt like going that deep though. I'd rather be able to tell my sales users now what differences they will experience than be unsure of my technical explanation to my solutions development team, lol.

2000=>me is a bad comparison; 2000 used the NT kernal, me used win9x. A better comparison would be win95=>win98 or win98=>me.

98->Me was what I meant, my bad.

Thats what I was thinking ! Everyone has been saying "Oh, windows 7 looks so much like Mac OSX" But I thought it looked like KDE 4 if anything.
would be cool if you could get kde to run on windows,
personally i like Gnome

Nah, not at all. 2000 was friggin' brilliant, it was just missing some features. Vista to 7 is more like 95 to 98.
XP to Vista to 7, on the other hand, is like 98 to ME to XP.
i agree, windows 2000 was one of the best OS's ever made, its XP (Which everyone loves i might add) but without the flashy theme service and luna, oh and some nicer gfx,
but more stable in my view.

98 and XP were never the same architecture. XP was built off windows NT, therefore off windows 2000. Windows 2000 is a good OS, but it lacks support from so many software companies (including microsoft).

For anyone not interested in partitioning or formatting a new harddrive, you can run the windows 7 beta off of a thumb drive. (http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/how_to_install_windows_7_beta_a_usb_key)

No, you can install Windows 7 beta off a thumb drive.
Personally, I just did an install over the LAN.

Wow, wish i knew how to do that... i only had 2 DVDs and had trouble burning the disk... would have been awesome to just install over the network. I ended up spending and hour or so making a boot flash drive and then trying to figure out how to make my computer boot from it. Oh and it ran really slow, apparently installing from a flash drive is super slow. (unless its just my computer... its pretty low end)
Anyway, I really like windows seven but haven't played w/ it to much yet. I'm not a power user though so i doubt i could really get in to the nitty gritty of it and give it a thorough testing.

You mean an activation key? I'm not sure what your referring to?
I managed to get it installed okay w/ the key i got when i downloaded the beta, it was just really slow installing from my flash drive. I Was just saying i wish i knew how to do it over the LAN like crenn.

Yes, that's what I was referring to. At least you were able to get it installed.

Dealing with killing viruses on a daily basis (job) makes me hate XP more and more everyday. In windows 7, hovering the mouse over the bottom right corner makes all windows go transparent. Just awesome!
