View Full Version : Cooling Mobo's North Bridge...

Hi I'm using an ASUS MSN-HD/HDMI motherboard (AM2+ Socket Mobo) it's north bridge is the NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI. I am going to be buying the new Phenom II BE, so I will be over clocking my computer, and I'm worried about my NB temps (I hear the stock cooler on the Phenom is pretty decent now, so that is not my #1 concern at the moment) and I'm just looking around and wondering if it matters what I buy? I'm currently looking at this (http://www.xoxide.com/serpent-northbridge-chip-cooler.html) but not sure if it is compatible or not.
So just curious about how to shop for an after market NB heat sink.

I suppose while I'm asking this I will ask a 2nd question, it's about the memory. I'm going to get DDR2 1066 memory, I will get some with cas timings of 5-5-5-15 as that's the fastest I can get from what I know. But for over clocking, do the voltages matter, and if so should I get one that's higher or lower voltage. I couldn't find much about voltage on google so figured I'd see if anyone here knows.

Thank you for any help!

Judging from the picture of the hold downbrack it it will no doubt fit.

i would wait to see what the temps are before you buy something but if this (http://www.computerbox.hu/shop/images/asus%20M3N-HD_HDMI.jpg) is your board then i would toss a 40mm/60mm or whatever you can get on it or blowing at it on there. it should drop temps pretty good if there is no airflow over it right now.

Yeah that is the board. I have 5 fans total, 2 of which are on the side. So their is airflow over it.

Yeah wack a 40mm or a 60mm (they look like they will fit) on the NB sink.

You could always buy an after market NB and mosfet sink for better temps, Thermalright is the way to go.

I'd just hang a full-height, medium-speed 60mm on there, agreed.

You're lucky, your northbridge isn't underneath your video card, directly behind the PCI Express x16 slot as a lot of older AM2 'boards (including mine) had it.
