How did you wire up the buttons? I'm looking at cheating and using the X-Arcade Tankstick to go with my MAME Linux box. Mine's up and running Debian with GXMAME on an old eMachines 400i (Celeron 400MHz), but as it stands I've just got the standard box, an IBM G76 17" CRT, keyboard and mouse.

I haven't even thought about how to build the cabinet yet, though I have been considering building one of those arcade tables that never got too popular.

oh those tables were EXTREMELY popular back in the day. You use any old keyboard controller really. but we purchased one with wire block terminal style connections. then any old contactor functions as a pre determined key.

so on ours left is A right is D up is E down is C and so on. The coin slots function as Shift left and shift right.

The Tilt/hit sensor bar is wired to the pause break button. is really effective when you need a beer. Just kick or slap the arcade to pause the video game.

They are pretty cheap, the keyboard controllers about 20$

Theres also a 1,400W 120v 12v relay to turn all the switches lights and all on.

That Arcade pulls enough initial amps to pop a GFCI circut.

Just to let you all know thats a Actual arcade and not a pre-fab one. In the pictures you can still see all the boards for joust.

Those boards are worth extreme $$$$$$$$ since they still work.

were working on attaining a 20" CRT to mount in there. but 20" are some rare.

Look for a SUN CRT monitor, I believe they commonly used 20" for workstations. I am fairly certain at least some recent ones used VGA. I have seen a few of them go up for sale relatively cheap at the classifieds at my school.

BTW this project is full of serious win.

I think you've taken it a lot further than I will, impressive. I'll keep an eye out for the keyboard controller cards, I saw some cheap somewhere, but can't remember where now. I guess my deciding to wire up some nice coloured buttons vs. buying a Tankstick will come down to how lazy I get, ha.

yea.

besides the 17" monitor you can't tell from the controls or look that its a pc anymore.

oh it has a trackball VHB'd to the side of the case. I'd recommend one since trying to use a normal mouse turns out to be quite a hassle.

I think thats where mike got the parts for the controllers.

Joust only had (this is pro remembering right here if you know) Up and down on the joystick and two buttons one on top of the each other.

Anyways i should mention that when you push the coin receive button it controls two additional buttons. the yellow one is pause (for playing music) or game pause. the red is stop for playing music or ESC in general.

hmmm. My only concern is the computers ability to pump out 30fps on Nintendo 64 emulators. that 9200 is semi lacking in the power department. But it's good since it's passively cooled, and been around the block for a couple years throughout various computers.

The integrated graphics from my grandparents' old emachines that came with a Celeron 2.5GHz (very old) could handle the full 60Hz for N64.
