I'm relatively new to hard modding computers. I have a project in mind which I will describe, and I would appreciate any suggestions, help, tips etc.

The Project:

A 100% custom built media box that will include the following:
1x Wintv PCI card for DVR and Live TV
1x BluRay sata DVD
1x 1Tb sata HD
1x 1.5Tb sata HD
2x 2Gb DDRII
1x GeForce 8 or 9 series PCIe card
1x ATX form MoBo
1x 450w PSU

The Goal:

To rearrange the components for a low profile set top box that I will also hand make. I want to maximize the utilization of space, cooling, airspace/flow.

I am open to any and all helpful constructive suggestions, do not ask me why I want to build this as all you will get is a "Because I want to". I hope that is the motivation for most of the others here as well.

I am still in my planning and gathering all components and tools phase. I will do my best to update my progress here, and will add pictures as soon as I start the construction phase. Again a pre-emptive thank you to all who contribute. Software/OS suggestions are welcome as well!

sounds like a sweet setup. I really really want to build a HTPC with a bluray drive. too broke though unfortunately, gotta wait til they are cheaper! (although the drives have come down a lot)

I know what you mean, thats why I like this setup, most of the components are $100 or less with the exception of the tuner card which runs about $140.
