I photograph sports for a DIV 2 college. Well last Monday I found a compact flash card laying on the ground beside the sidewalk leading to the parking lot. I took it home and threw it in the card reader. There were about 65 photos on it and most were self shots of this chick. So I threw the best one in photoshop and posted it on facebook asking if anyone knew who she was.

After tagging about 35 people I got a message from one of my friends saying that the chick is in his biology class. So he gave me her email addy. I sent her an email and let her know that I found her compact flash card and would like to return it to her. I left the next date I would be on campus and that she could pick it up from campus security then. Well this afternoon I got an email back from her telling me that I could keep the card because she replaced it with 2 4gb cards and would never use it again. She did ask if I could send her the pics.

So I have a free 2gb CF Card to add to my CF vault (seriously I must have 25 cf cards ranging from 1gb to 8gb all in a 8" x 10" leather case)

The lesson of this story: If you find something that's of value to someone try your best to return it. You never know if you will get a reward or not. Besides it just good form.

+rep for doing the right thing, and it worked out well for everyone involved because of it! Nice find, too.

My thoughts were that the person who lost the card was probably a student and with a compact flash card they were more than likely a photography student because not many consumer level cameras take CF and that might be their only CF card. I couldn't let a fellow photog hanging. Besides I remember what it was like in college with my first DSLR and just 1 CF card. Also Good Karma is always a good thing.

The right thing indeed but it would have sucked if there were "personal" pictures on there lol.

I emailed her the pics earlier tonight and then deleted them. I will see if I see her at any of the games or adds me on FB. If she does I will post a pic.

In the last 5 years I have found 4 cameras, 1 memory card, 6 cell phones and 1 cd wallet with photo disk in it.

not yet have I found a single naughty or simi naughty pic on them.

Yea I find a lot of stuff. It's all part of being completely aware of my surroundings.

Reminds me of two similar stories... which I will separate with quote blocks.

I found a cellphone and credit card lying on the ground in a parking lot at my school, right next to each other. Picked up the cellphone and it was still on. I dropped it in my pocket, along with the credit card, and went home.

I had forgotten it was there until the cellphone started to vibrate around. I opened it up and there was a text message from "Mom".

I set her a text back saying:

"Hello. My name is Mike and I found your child's cellphone on the ground at (school's name). I also found (person's name)'s credit card next to it. I would like to return them. Please call me at (my cellphone number) and I will let you know what my address is so you can come get them."

So, I got a call a few minutes later, told her my address and gave her the cellphone back. She drove off. She came back about a half hour later with a lot of chocolate chip cookies.

hell yeah, cookies.

It was a rainy day and I had found a wallet sitting in a puddle in the street on my way home from school. I decided to go pick it up. Since it's raining, I decided to go home and deal with it there.

So, I get home and start going through it to find out what all's in there. I find a twenty, a driver's license, some credit cards, and some other stuff. Among which is a business card for the same person on the Driver's License. I was, admittedly, a little torn between returning it as-is or taking the twenty and just saying it wasn't there in the first place. I mean hey, it's twenty bucks, after all.

Well anywho, there's a "Cell" number on this business card so I call it. The guy picks up and I ask if he's lost his wallet and what his name is. Everything matches up. I tell him I have his wallet and ask him where he lives so I can bring it to him. He tells me, so I get on my bike and go there.

I decided to leave the wallet as-is. I got to his house, rang the doorbell, introduced myself and handed him the wallet. He went through it (probably to make sure it was all there), then said "Thank you for your honesty" and pulled some money out from his pocket. He counted five twenty dollar bills and handed them to me. "Have a nice day now, son" he said.

I paused for a moment, asked if he really meant to give me $100, he said yes and I thanked him and went on my way.

i found somebodys wallet outside a resturant one evening after work, i was the last one out.

I found a ton of cash, loads of cards, but no contact info, as it was a resturant in a hotel i gave my contact info to reception and put the wallet in a locked safe which only i had the key and the following day a customer reported it missing. asked some security questions about the cards and returned it.

Strangly it belonged to the guy that owned the hotel chain, as a thanks he gave me a free night for me and my better half (my partner at the time) plus free dinner and breakfast, total value worth £200 plus an expences tabe of £100 to spend as we saw fit in the hotel.

what goes around comes around is what i say.

and when i lost my wallet a nice lady returned it so i bought here some flowers and chocolates as a thankyou.

Good to know there is a lot of people who still have hearts. I've seen people I know find a mobile phone and just discard the SIM... I've never understood why some don't even try to return properties to their rightful owners, I know how bad it is to lose stuff.

My wife lost her usb drive @ school and a guy returned it two months later. found her name on a word document and tracked her down. Tried to give him a reward but he wouldn't take it. very nice guy. could have easily wiped it off and called it his. I had already bought her a new one, writing the old one off.
