For all you people that have an unlimited data plan on your phone.
Now you can hook up your phone and have it act as a modem...WITHOUT EXTRA CHARGE.

In fact....im on it right now!
However you have to surf at a blistering 2.4k/s....but really....who cares when its your phone powering your interwebz.
I wonder how fast sprint will call me if I torrent

I use my HTC 6700 as a modem sometimes. But one thing to beware of, Sprint announced back in May that they were going to cap the unlimited internet usage to 5GB. I dunno if its taken effect yet, but I will ask around work and see what they say.

I've done speedtests on my HTC Diamond (as a modem) and ranged from 2mbps to 3.5mbps, depending on the area. Once Telus upgrades its network (to be completed in 2010) we should see up to 7mbps with this phone, and up to 14mbps with newer ones.
They do restrict this though (called Tethering), and charge $8/mb!!! The trick is to use a third party app, rather than the built in software to do it or they'll catch on to you.
when my area gets upgraded i could get 7mb through my phone,
but tbh, why would you want to?

Just so you could tether your laptop to it, and have mobile broadband. Hell, you could tether your home PC/Network to it, and have only one internet bill every month! :D
but then whynot get one of them internet only devices rather than use your phone,

Most phone providers charge you an additional "Tethering" charge.
This is a workaround.

People who live outside urban areas are restricted in their broadband choices. This is a good solution, plus it's mobile. :)
Fair enough, in the uk we have 99% coverage for wireless internet

On a carPC forum I have heard of people using cheap pay as you go phones that have unlimited data plans to add internet to carPCs. Not fast and you may ask why have constant internet in a car but if/when I setup my carPC I'd have it set to pull weather and traffic conditions via the internet.

It can be fast, it just depends on the phone/network... I regulary exceed 3mbps with my phone. :)
A live internet connection makes travelling so much nicer. A few months ago, we drove home from Edmonton (about 2 hours), and my wife played WoW all the way home on the laptop using an aircard (mobile broadband).
