that is the question...

Anyone know any numbers off hand for striping two (7200) laptop drives? Percentage boost in booting, loading apps, etc?

I'm thinking about buying another 320gig scorpio and putting it in raid but I think I may just rather have the extra space...

Please don't tease me by mentioning SSDs... they're still way too much /gig for me to even consider.

EDIT: From what I've read, it's about a 25% increase which doesn't seem like much but everyone that says they split the array, they immediately went back to it because of the performance hit. I wish I had 3 slots in my laptop... I really hated using an external with my laptop and 300gigs isn't much to work with nowadays.

I seem to boot windows in about a minute and the desktop appears faster then the start up sound can play.

try BootVIS if your running windows xp.

Let it go overnight doing a Boot Trace+driver, i did mine 44 times.

lol three passes of the windows bar and im at windows.

they are laptop drives, so i am assuming they are in a laptop? If you are looking for 3.5" drives caviar blacks by WD are good. also with the 320g scorpio, the raid will only perform as good as the worst drive, the raid will take both drives and make them 320 (if i remember correctly) so if you have a 320 and 500, you will loose about 180gb on the bigger drive. raid all depends on the drive.

i tried that bootVIS and it did next to nothing on my machine, went from 10.5 bar passes to 10 barr passes,

but i think thats due to the fact my machine is sooooo clean and trimmed to start with, i've disabled services, gpedit and the registry, i also only have 18 processes from boot
