OK guys, this is going to be a quick introduction, mainly because I'm knackered.
Basically, me and my brother got fed up of our computers being on crap desks that get cluttered very easily, and is just generally poor for working on, or playing games (mostly the latter :)).
So we decided to use up some of the space out in the garage. Now, because the garage has an average (at best) door on the front, the cold and damp gets in quite easily. So to combat this, the unit we are going to build will be fully enclosed and freestanding.
We will build a floor, four walls, and a roof. Obviously one of the walls will have a door. For this project, I'm thinking cold cathodes for moodlighting, some inset lights my brother has that run of 240V mains for general lighting. I also have two 120mm fans lying around to bring in and take out air from outside the box, and six 80mm fans that I can use to give some air to my towers under the desk. I will run them through a fan controller so I can change the speeds from a central place, and so that I can run them of the same PSU as the cold cathodes. I'm thinking of using the old green to black PSU hack for this :)
I'm thinking of carpetting the floor, and having some sort of lino or venier for the desk. Not sure about the walls yet.
Anyway, time for the progress so far.
Here is how far we got with the floor after the first night.

Sorry about the quality of the pics. I took them on my iPhone, but photobucket automatically streches them downwards to 800x600 from a widescreen resolution.
You may have noticed the braces between the frame got shorter and more frequent. This is because this will be the part where all the weight is going to be, where we are sitting. The other part will be where the desk is, so it won't be holding as much weight.
So, the plan for tomorrow (thursday). Add a little more width to the floor using two more braces. Then cut and secure the chipboard to the floor frame.
From there we can build the back wall, followed by the side walls. Then the front wall with the door, and followed by the hardest part to attach... the roof. Considering this is indise a garage, the space above this thing will be rather limiting when coming to fix it to the main piece.
Once the structure side is done, we can then start on the desk and other inside parts.
I can't wait to get this done :D
We will finish the floor by tomorrow night, and will start on the walls by the weekend. We should be able to have the main structure done within a week, and the final thing within a month :D
Let me know what ya think guys.
