My girlfriends birthday is coming up and I want to get her a TV I think. Just something small for her dorm room. Here are the ones I've been looking at.
Vizio 32" (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10778775)
Sharp 32" (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Video_Conferencing/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=A1982697)
Please let me know what you think or if you have another suggestion. I would like to stay under $500 base price.
Thanks!

Well, the top one is 1080p, so naturally I would go with it. That, and it has a DTV tuner.

Pretty much every TV sold now has one.

If you get the visio, i would get an upgraded warranty. The cheaper brands usually caf out after the mfg warranty expires. The sharp one is nice but 720p i find is a hinderance if you ever plan on connecting it to a computer or console.

My vote goes toward the Vizio. 1080p is better than 720p, even if the other specs like contrast ratio, response time, etc., are slightly in favor of the Sharp, so slight in fact, that even if both were 1080p you more than likely wouldn't even notice a difference. It looks like the Vizio sports more ports than the Sharp too.
They seem to be about even over-all, except the Vizio has 1080p which is a major bonus. The Vizio is better looking in my opinion too. So the Vizio gets my vote pretty much hands down.
Now if we we're comparing a Samsung TOC 1080p LCD with that Vizio... well that would be a whole different story! But you would be paying twice the price for one of those (32" - $800) so I think the Vizio might of won that one too just for its sheer good price. lol

Eh, it's only 32" though. I doubt you'd notice the difference between 720p and 1080p on it.. I'd go with the sharp, haven't heard too much about Vizio..

I have a 37" Sharp 720p, and love it.

Thanks a lot guys. It seems that i have 3 for the Sharp and 2 for the Vizio. My girlfriend has a Wii so I don't think that the 720p or 1080p matters much. I just want to know what is better in overall quality. Sharps are good. They are one of the biggest names. But I've heard a lot about Vizio form people who have had them. Keep it coming guys. I would like to buy this week.

Spend extra and get a Samsung lol. Out of those 2 I would personally get the Sharp. Even though it is only 720p Sharp is a known and proven brand. I have never ever heard of Vizio.

I have a 32" Samsung 720p. Works excellent for everything i use it for... PS2, Wii, PC, Sky Digital and DVD playback. very nice set :D
Of the 2 you are looking at tho, I would go with the Sharp. mainly because of the known brand name... my folks have a saying... Buy cheap, buy twice... Now granted they are both about the same cost, but one seems to be rather discounted and the other isnt.

You know... thats a good saying!
I think I'll change my vote toward the Sharp. It doesn't sound like it matters too much if its 720p or 1080p and Sharp is generally a pretty decent brand and that above saying is definitely true.
Either way, I don't think you can go wrong. We all know Sharp is a decent brand, and from what I can tell Vizio seems to be a decent brand too. But of the two, I would rather put my money on the Sharp.
I'll third the Samsung too by the way, if you can find one in that price range. Samsung makes beautiful displays.

Thank you all for your input. I think in the long run the Vizio is going to be the better bet. I know a lot of people that have them and I personally can't see the difference between the 2. I've also recently gone to stores and looked at the 2 and they seem to look exactly the same when comapring the 1080p version of a sharp.
Thanks to everyone for your input.
