Hi all

Was thinking of building a hang on the wall jukebox/media centre:

This is what I was going to do:

1. Buy a second hand pc something like a pentium 4.

2. Build a wooden box size roughly 24inch high x 24inch wide X 4 inch depth. The thinner the better ! Depends on the size of the components..

3....Remove all components from pc and install into box, have two led fans in bottom and two leds fans in top, with power supply fitted to bottom and dvd drive fitted coming out of top of the box. ( do I need 4 fans ?)

4. Fit a wireless pic card, leave all back panel conections inside the cabinet, so only accesable by opening the cabinet. I would have a few usb fitted to the top to plug in camera etc.

5. The screen will be a elo 17 inch touch screen , which will be fitted to the front of the cabinet.

6. Install a jukebox program (freebox)
Make a desktop with large icons to fav sites you tube etc..
And install a virtual keyboard.

7 . Fit an audio T class amp and 4 inch speakers x 4, with two firing out of the top and two at the bottom.

8. And then finally finish the top and bottom with some leather fabric and then get a piece of high gloss perspex bent to the shape of the cabinet front and sides with a hole cut out for the touch screen.

I want it mounted on my kitchen wall and be able to select music with the jukebox program like a (bar style jukebox) or surf the web or make a play list on youtube and watch some music videos. install all my photos and leave it as a screen saver so when im not using it it would act as a wall mounted photo frame.

can anybody see any problems ?

just wanted it to be a neat solution, no wires hanging out, just a plug for the power, all touch screen with audio built into the cabinet..

There was a guy who did something similar here long ago, but he seems to have vanished. Here is what he built...

Hi thanks , yes but eveything will be hidden and the screen on the front, the fans will be similair at the bottom, if I put two fans 80mm at the bottom do i really need two fans at the top?

It all depends on the amount of heat generated by your hardware, but off hand I would say no. 4 80mm fans sounds like overkill. You might want to consider putting them on top though as the heated air inside the box will rise better than it will be dragged out through the base. But another consideration is how high you intend to mount the box. If it will be at or above eye level, the fans would be better on top because they would be out of sight, and vice versa.

Hi thanks, It will be only a pentium 4 pc, was thinking of putting the bottom fans sucking air in and the top fans sucking air out ? Is that the normal way you do it ? was going to make it as thin in depth as possible so just thought it may need more air flow as the components will be tight together many thanks

If you don't mind not having a PCI express slot, and only one PCI slot, you might want to look at some motherboards with Intel Atom processors. There's also a slightly lager one that has a PCI slot and a PCI express 1x slot.

http://www.stuff-uk.net/?s=ST-BOXD945GCLF2H saw this one ?
What is missing to complete my project ?
It seems theres the:

Processer

Motherboard

Video card

Audio card

so I would only need dvd drive, hardrive, wireless card and power supply to get it working and an operating system, monitor and audio speakers ?

You would also need RAM if you don't have any. That motherboard takes one stick of DDR2, up to 2GB. The fastest speed that the RAM runs at is DDR2 667, so buying DDR2 800 for more money would be a waste of money. I have that same motherboard, but with the single core version of the processor, and it runs great.

Would this be ok ? Its cheaper ! just thinking it may be a cheaper option than buying a second hand pc ?

suppose I would need a processer fan, and other cabinet fans, what is the actual hight of these boards ? thanks

That doesn't have an onboard CPU, though.
