I had an ATi x700 pro in my rig, but its fan was getting tired and noisy. I found this ATi HD2600 Pro 512MB on cragslist for $50, picked it up today :D

...the same day my Seagate Barracuda drive crashed...grrr

Nice. They're both better than that PCI card.

i have a hdd in my freezer atm, awaiting a replacement to be delivered,

Im charging £100 ($150) for the service with no promise that the drive will work long enough to get data off it let alone start.

It keeps making funny noises!

so its ok to freeze it with data on it then? I may toss mine in at lunch

yes, provided you seal it in a bag first, to prevent any moisture on the drive.

If the drive motor or heads are stuck, freeze the drive and when you turn it on (Still frozen) 9/10 times it will free the stuck item, some times it fixes it permenantly, others it works for a few hours.

I've had this work for me numerous times at work with dead hdd's. Nice deal on that video card! I have an x800 myself and i'm torn with replacing it!

no go on the freeze :( had it in for abour 4 hours, it at least booted with the drive hooked up, just took a long time. and now it doesnt show up in my computer, and it still making a chirp noise every 20 seconds or so. Still no word from Seagate either...they said itd be within 24hours....

:EDIT: I held the drive, felt it spin up, and then the chriping begins. the drive doesnt seem to interrupt or spin slower when it chirps, so it seems like somethings messed up with the arm

Try leaving it in the freezer for a good 24 hours, and see if that works.

I'm just worried about leaving it in there, I've got a LOT of stuff on that drive I NEED to get off :(

It's broken already. It's not going to get any worse in the freezer, unless it spontaneously combusts.

well when I send it back to Seagate they'll retrieve my data before the send me a new drive...I'd hate to ruin it
