Alright, so right now I have an HIS IceQ4 HD4850 512MB. I am planning on getting another graphics card to replace or complement this one. Right now I'm aiming for slightly more performance than an HD4870 1GB. Here's my question:

Will an HD4870 512MB + HD4850 512MB perform particularly better than an HD4870 1GB?

The reason I ask is that HD4870 512MBs are particularly cheaper than the 1GBs.

-OR-
Should I just wait until ATI releases the HD4900/HD5800 series?

The games I'll playing on this for are Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2, GRID, Left 4 Dead, and a few more new games.

Thanks,
Indybird

The question is WHEN the 5k's come out, and how long you will wait for them. No doubt they will be amazing and expensive.

My guess is that the two cards would do better than the 4870 1GB.

Supposedly, the HD5000 series is due out in June/July time frame of this year (I see more sources saying June). But who knows if the date will slip or not due to economic conditions. Note that the HD5000 series will be DX11 hardware. Personally, I'd wait for the HD5000 series, unless you can not live with lower graphics settings for a few months (or have money to burn).

I would say 2 would be better because it does the whole split screen rendering. But for power and space why not go 2x4870? Cheaper than an x2 but really good.
