cicuit city's going out of business "sale."

289 dollars for a 1tb external....same one at bestbuy for 149.99 at reg price. They had the same simpletech 500gb external for 159.99 that they had back at that office depot sale for 39.99... 99.99 regular price at Bestbuy and tons more hilarious yet sickening prices. After directing a few people to newegg, tiger or bestbuy I had to leave because I was getting sick to my stomach from the huge crowd of people that showed for their "30-50% off sale."

Business like this and they wonder why they're going out of business. Comp USA tried doing this not too long ago but I think circuit city's prices were much more inflated... even the employees were laughing at how BS the prices were.

note: Although the box was the standard 1tb mybook, I will at try and give the employees benefit of the doubt and say they ment to put the "mirror version" of the mybook which is still only 209.99 everywhere else. Their price for this 1tb despite the version was the same prices as the 2TB mirror version mybook at bestbuy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8853859&type=product&id=1209166068695). LOL

Welcome to business as usual, 101.

Auto dealerships, when they have massive used car sales off-site and claim the prices are lower, they're actually marked up.

Same thing for electronics stores, drug stores, anything. Going out of business sales typically have prices marked up. They try and lure in suckers with "10-50% off all items!" without looking at the actual price.

Seems like it should be illegal.

This is actually pretty common, I read about it on gizmodo. It's not circuit city setting the prices anymore, it's actually the liquidator. It's their job to get as much money as they can out of whats left of the merchandise so when they come in the first thing they do is jack all of the prices back up to the MSRP and then start the discounts from there. It's really stupid, but that's apparently how it works. I was in their the other day looking to see if the prices had dropped to a normal level yet and they wanted, i think it was, 50 or 60 dollars for a 1GB stick of ram that could be acquired on newegg for half the price.

It's ridiculous how many people fall for it. If they would have gone to Circuit City, a few weeks before they filled for bankruptcy they would have gotten better deals and probably actually helped the company stay afloat. But hey, they didn't have a big THIRTY PERCENT OFF sign hanging from the roof, so it must have been a crappy deal.

In short: people are suckers.

it was kind of funny seeing all the people going crazy over the 10% off there when everything was more expensive than a lot of places normally... people just love a good sale. I did find a few goodies, like some 360 stuff @ 30% off of reg. price which rarely goes down normally :)

I just drove past a guy in the road today with a sign for 50% off there. Apparently not on much

they have been steadily raising the percentage off, wouldnt be suprised if its 50% off now on some things.

March is supposedly when the real going out of business sale will begin. They need to be liquidated by March 31st. Really the only good deals to be had there are actually on the video games since those prices are sort of regulated by the industry. GoW2 for 30% off anyone? Everything else is pretty rediculous, although I did see a 24" LG monitor that sells at best buy for 399 on sale for 299 at circuit city yesterday.

We checked in a few weeks ago, and you're right - it was a joke. I've gotten a few decent deals from 'em before - 160GB hard drive for $60 in late 2005, my current video card for $66 a year ago - but they had nothing worth buying this time. Sad, really.

I just ordered a new monitor from newegg. But I went to Circuit City first to comparison shop, not only did the prices stink but even the cheapest monitor in the size range I wanted cost more than the monitor I just ordered which has better features than circuit cities best model of that size. I did get a decent deal on a dash kit for car, so I can throw in a better headunit after I get it registered in the spring. I still say avoid them if you can.

When I worked there I found a lot of times my discount was ok on some stuff. But on Car audio I was saving almost 50% on the cost. I bought an Infinity BassLink sub for $200 and it started at $400. Maybe they're cutting down closer to cost first then will move to bigger deals?

I noticed this as well when I went to Circuit City to see the what is supposed to be "deep discounts." I could beat every price I seen on-line even with the extra % off. Some clown was busting the worker's chops over something. I guess he didn't realize that they are all going to loose their jobs in March.

That sucks, I cant miss the dash kit for my car. Ford and their stupid oval head units with built in climate controls. I was actually going to look at their component speakers too but they were all cheap brands, going to a proper car audio shop when I do get the rest of my audio.

Yeah i thought about looking at some speakers but my store has everything half torn apart and their computer shut down so i couldn't search and see what fits my car. (I know the speaker size but a lot of speakers w/ large tweeters in the center wont fit behind the door panel.)

I want to slowly rework my audio system. My bass sounds like trash (old hand me down subs), my amp is probably dieing from being flooded w/ rain water, my rear speakers are jerry rigged (and cheapies at that) and my front ones are stock one of which is dead lol

I bought my Laser mouse off the comp usa shelf. Yea the shelf model woo.. Haggled that man down to 15$ on a 50$ mouse.

oh but look its a shelf model how do i know it works (-10$)

Oh but look it has some scratches on the side (-20$)

Oh this such and such here has this (-5$)

works everytime. you just have to interject random sentences in between questions about lowering the price.

Buy Cerwin Vega You will not be Disapointed.

lol it doesn't have to have a twinkies bar sized Suspention to bass extremely hard. I've got the kind with the red suspention ring. its enough to make my rear view mirror dance around side to side.

How much did you spend on them? I'm lookin but so far all i can find is their home audio stuff. I'm actually looking to downgrade from my 2 12 inch subs to a single 12. At the moment their driven by a 600 Watt amp.

I'm thinkin of goin in this order.

*smaller box
*New woofer
*New amp.

Sorry, I'm way off topic lol
