So I ordered parts for a new computer from newegg on Friday. Well, everything but the case is getting delivered today. Guts and cables came from NJ, and the case is coming from CA. Now, what REALLY sucks, is that even though everything will be here tomorrow, I won't get to build anything until probably Friday because I have to work tomorrow and Thursday night from 7-7. Just so you guys know.. The first computer I ever built, AMD 900 Mhz, 128 mb of RAM, 20 gig hdd. I've been given bits and pieces here and there to throw a P4 system together. Currently using Compaq SR1620nx (http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/hp-compaq-presario-sr1620nx/4505-3118_7-31589079.html) with some extra RAM thrown in. Ordered core2duo 2.8ghz, 4 gigs of RAM, 500 gig storage drive, dvdrw with lightscribe, 9500gt.

Waiting sucks!

well now is the time to clean all the crap stock thermal pastes off everything and replace it all with some MX-2 if you have it.

also build it to test it.

So the rumors are true then--I had to listen to your voicemail a couple of times. All I heard clearly was 4 gigs of RAM. Figured you were doing a computer build.

Can't wait to see it!

HALO. I saw the 360 that the one dude did, but I haven't seen a single halo inspired PC mod. Ever. Maybe once we're settled and the USMC case is done, I should take it upon myself to remedy that.

I demand that this become a reality with this build. :D

Damn, that's an old post. Probably no modding will be done to the new case, but that doesn't mean I won't do something to the old one. Even if it's just paint. We'll see.

So get this.. the case was supposed to be delivered today. 5:45 am update from UPS said that the case was out for delivery. 11:00 am, I went to bed because I'm working tonight. No case by the time I left for work. I get here, and check the tracking, and it says that it's held for customs. WTF! It came from California to Ohio ffs! If it's not here tomorrow, I'm going to the UPS place and standing on someones desk.

Maybe Paul got a hold of it and is customizing it for you!

Seriously, that's just a bit odd...and sounds like typical service from UPS. Oh the horror stories I could tell.

how true how true....

i built a old pc from spare parts as a htpc for my room. i like to watch Seinfeld and Flight of the Conchords when i go to bed so i ripped the dvds to it. anyway i have a old 21" crt plugged into it and it takes the monitor longer to turn on and get the picture crisp then the computer to load to windows.

my current pc (sig) takes a good minute and a half cause of all the startup programs i have and games installed (170gb's worth).

Well light scribe is being abandonded rather quickly

Should of spent that extra $$$ on a 9600/9800GT

9500GT's are rather hilarious in terms of gaming performance.

An extra 10$ could of netted you 50% More Proccessing power

9500 Series run with 32 Proccessors. 9600GT's run with 64 Proccessors and 9800's run with 96 Proccessors.

Also 9500 Series do not handle Native Physics so its a rather hard load on your Central proccessor.

It's also 128 Bit Vs the 96/98 Series 256/384 Bit rate. It makes a hell of a difference.

I give your computer componant choices a overall :( . But if you dont plan on playing intense brandnew video games very often then its rather a nice computer. I often default to "every computer will play video games at some point" train of thought

Not trying to hate its just my opinion.

SgtM stated that this was built on a budget.

Twigs - I appreciate your opinion. Thanks for being honest. If you can find that better proc at newegg for $10, let me know. I'll contact them about a swap. This computers main use is internet and web developing, a little photoshop, and the 3 games I do have (Age of Empired III, ARMA, Joint Operations), it runs perfectly. To be honest, it's quite a step up from the ATI 200 and AMD 3400 I was running previously. I like having the option to upgrade something, and I can definitely do that with this. I maxed out the RAM, but I can throw a quad core in here, and upgrade the video card later if I want. I was working with a budget of $500, so I got what I could, and I'm satisfied with it.

1200 bucks?

Here you go

AMD 7750+

77.99$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103300

MSI K9A2 Neo 74.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130173

EVGA 9800GTX+ 128 Proccessors 154.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130339

Corsair 850W SLI Certified 139.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009

4096MB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 low latency 50$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

Get your own case (add 100$)

1000GB Western Digital (Seagate 1TB's are horrendus) 100$

LG Blu ray HD DVD DVD Burner (yea blu ray burner) 200$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136155

everything else like the monitor keyboard mouse speakers and such get yourself but i totalled out at 797.95$ throw another 80$ at it for a Quad core AMD phaenom. but the one i posted is faster then the lowest end Quad core in terms of just raw Gaming performance so why not use it towards a better graphics card a bigger LCD monitor or a additonal 1000GB of Hard disk drive space.
just to review

AMD 7750+
4096MB
Geforce 9800GTX
1000GB HDD
Everything Burner
full sized mainboard with all the features you'd want.
850W for adding a additional GFX card.

for 1,200 bucks you can throw in a SLI board and a additional 9800GTX putting you at 256 Shader Proccessors.

this is why i lol'd at your choices in componants, didn't mean it in a bad way. but 1,200 bucks isn't a budget stack, it should be a Video game Trampler.

i Said 10 Additional dollars could of gotten you a 50% increase in Graphics proccessing power not cpu Proccessing power.

wtf dude my graphics card has 112 proccessors. although it was quite expensive at the time still is for this specific edition of card. so i dunno what the 32 to 96 comment is about were swimming in the 800 Proccesser set ups now.

Lightscribe is being abandoned because almost nobody is willing to pay that sort of cash for a disc. something a printer can do 50x better with full color for half the price. I gave mine away and got a blu ray burner and havent looked back.
