Hello everybody

I’m new to these forums so let me introduce myself.
My name is Tom and I live in Belgium, I am 17 years old and I’m modding for almost 2 years now.
You’ll notice I like to work with wood. My first caseconstruction didn’t work out well.
So I started on a casemod after that (that was …. Hmm let me think … in august 2007)
My project was named HELGHAN … so you can google on it to see more of it.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/HELGHAN/Finals/DSC04832.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/HELGHAN/Finals/DSC04822.jpg
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/HELGHAN/Finals/DSC04704.jpg

I went to a competition held in the Netherlands… called “The Benelux casemod league”
The good thing is that I won 1st place, the bad thing … well there isn’t a bad thing really xD.

For a whole year I had a very big idea about a caseconstruction … something that was never done before (I think :p). And with the goodies I’ve won at the competition, I had the strength to make it real.

After a long and weird intro, I’m pleased to announce my big idea :D
“Elements of Fortune”

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/reclame2.jpg

The idea:
The construction is based upon a slot machine, the (I think famous) Wheel of Fortune Slot Machine.
Don’t you know what I’m talking about? Here’s a picture:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/wof.jpg

I’m only going to make 1 slot machine of course ;)
After lots of looking I started to design a custom build based upon it. I designed it with google sketchup. I work every day on the sketching, so it might be a bit different than this design:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/totaal.jpg

I already made some progress on this mod, and my English is not THAT good … So here are some other pictures on the different parts of the construction.

The bottom:
I started with this

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/bodem.jpg

After a while, I decided to make this:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/colorsbottom1.jpg

The inside (the actual computer)
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1p2Sketch.jpg

Final results will be a bit different than this.
The wheels … with the one armed bandit

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/spinners1.jpg

The cooling

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/koelingblok1.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/rad1.jpg

And about the top I’m not really sure … so I won’t let you see some sketches ^^

Enough blab la blablablabaaaaaaaaahaaaa !
Let’s start modding :p

I basically work with 12mm MDF (don’t know dimensions in feet or inches or …)
To start with the bottom, I sawed something.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC04843.jpg

I decided to saw them at 45° , so you won’t see the connection of the wood.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC04850.jpg

Looks like this when you put it together…

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC04844.jpg

Not really spectacular :p
More sawing: PS- you’ll notice my new machine on the table :)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05072.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05065-1.jpg

I made a picture what it will look like

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05067-1.jpg

The next day I replaced a plate
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/casinomodv2.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05077.jpg

And I made it stronger with another plate of wood.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05078.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05076.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05092.jpg

The case will be very heavy and large… wheels will make it movable.
(I also build this construction in several parts, so if I want to transport it … I’ll transport it in parts.)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05108.jpg

Some wood, because without the wheel won’t touch the ground

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05111.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05112.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05113.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05117.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05120.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05119.jpg

ArGh ! … I still need some shorter bolts :p

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05124.jpg

They touch the ground with 1 cm space in between.
(imagine the wooden sheet as “ground”)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05126.jpg

…Needs some sanding and finishing and well a lot of things, but I already began on the studs.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/studs32.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/studs11.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/b4b43c09.jpg

It’s not that complicated. 1 stud is made out of 4 sheets of aluminum and 2 Plexiglas
ALU / plexi (with light) / ALU __ ALU / Plexi / ALU.
I need 18 studs … that’s like 72 sheets of alu, and 36 sheets of plexi.
I don’t have the thing like CNC or a mill … so I all need to make it with a small saw.

What do I need?
A big sheet of aluminum
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05096.jpg

And some coffee with a waffle … of maybe more waffles and coffee :p
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05097.jpg

The coffee and waffle … Hmm njam – the sheet of alu is in pieces now.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05099.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05103.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05104.jpg

72 of those :o

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05106.jpg

Next day I started on something else because the saw blades where missing.
A Plexiglas reservoir. Why? It’s just for eye-candy. There will be moving cogs in it and you will see the fluid moving thanks to those cogs and some lightning.
If you don’t understand … don’t worry – in the end you will :p

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/0ebe4762.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC04893.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC04895.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC04896.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05069.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05073.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05128.jpg

This reservoir is tested by me just a few hours ago … I got one very small leek – but that’s easy to fix.

I also designed some other new things.
This will be the reservoir for the watercooling setup.
(custom made, and the middle part is supposed to move ^^ )

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/reservoir1.jpg

Not a good sketch … but the design of the HDD (if they won’t be watercooled)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/hdd1-1.jpg

And two sketches of a possible CPU waterblock

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/Scannen001002.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/Scannen001003.jpg

Some tips:
The wheels won’t be working like in a real casino slot machine, and the one armed bandit will only be used to boot the computer.
I hope to get a sponsor because it is a big, expensive project and I’m just a poor student who likes modding :p
Money or not … I’m going to make it – don’t give a * if it takes 5 years :p

Cheers :D

Well, first off, Welcome to TBCS. Glad to have you.
Secondly, That first case looks pretty darn good if you ask me.
And thirdly, your new case design looks kick A-ss. It also looks like you are off to a good start. I'll be watching this one. :)

First update on these forums.
First of all I want to excuse me because my English is not so great :p.

That’s why you won’t see a lot of description around the pictures

There are new bolts and nuts on the wheels. Not for fun, but for details.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05129.jpg

Wheels are steady and ready :p

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05135.jpg

I also made a frame in the bottom, reason ? to make it stronger ;)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05134.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05133.jpg

It doesn’t move an inch ! (or whatever dimensions you know :p )

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05132.jpg

I also made the other bottom plate stronger with some bolts.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05138.jpg

This because the whole construction will be heavy.
The first sidepanel:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05143.jpg

I’m gonna make holes in it, to make just a little bit lighter.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05137.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05144.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05145.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05146.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05148.jpg

And some “gaps” … In these I can put a motherboard panel and bottom panel.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05154.jpg

You won’t see the MDF wood I’m using right now, because the outer side will be made of plexi and the inner side of aluminum.
To attach the plexi I’ve used some bolts.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05152.jpg

Here you can see how the bottom will be (and under the bottom the plexi reservoir – just for eye candy - )

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05156.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05157.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05160.jpg

I also made the motherboard panel… and you can see that I already made some holes in that as well.
My intention is to click the panels. So they are attached to each other.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05162.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05163.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05165.jpg

As you can see the panels fit well …

I hope to get some sponsors soon ... Yes I know there is a worldwide crisis ^^ but I really think I can work this project out very well.

Cheers

Hey ! I’m back :D

And I got a load of pictures with me. :P
I think I stopped with this picture.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05172.jpg

Now, I need to find myself some dimensions of an ATX mobo, and some spacers to place the motherboard.
Here is our victim

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05171.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05175.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05176.jpg

I just made holes in the wood, a little bit smaller than the spacers are. So the spacers are very steady in the wood.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/53699847.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05179.jpg

I let some space where I can put my cables. I’m going to make a hole, and then put the wires to the back of the motherboard tray.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05180.jpg

I also got some space for my 24pins and SATA cables
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05181.jpg

After this, I made the other panels.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05183.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05184.jpg

I used the saw at 45°, so the panels would fit correctly.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05190.jpg

Making the window in the front panel:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05222.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05223.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05226.jpg

Now the other side panel.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05232.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05234.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05235.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05239.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05240.jpg

And to finish this update… I’m going to use a “secret space between the wooden panels” … euhm, here I can put my cables so nobody can see them in the end.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05241.jpg

I also sketched 2 different designs for the hard disk casings.

Well I hope so too :D

I had a week vacation, it was a very busy vacation. But I managed to do some casemodding after all :)

Here is the panel that will come at the back.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05293.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05294.jpg

The big hole will be a window … the smaller hole will be used for cables like the DVI cable, mouse and USB cables.
I don’t want that those cables will suffer because the sharp edges … so I made them softer :)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05300.jpg

The I/O panel is next.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05321.jpg
(that will keep it steady)

And another wooden frame around the metal frame will make it more steady :D

This is the backside of the case (if you imagine a normal case.)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05331.jpg

I’ve used some very thick wood, because this panel will be lifting other heavy things.

Ring rang, man on telephone tells me my saw blade arrived. :D
I fitted it on to my machine, and started working the struts (I think they call “struts”)
Remember these ?

In the end of the evening… lots of stupid things happened. So I decided I would continue modding Monday.

Last blade:

To end this update I want to say a big thanks to my sponsor. Autosoft (www.autosoft.be) It’s a Belgium store that sells casemodding supply and is a wonderful shop for hardware :)
I made a deal to present this case in the store as it is finished. They also gave me lots of modding stuff… I won’t be using this all in this Elements of Fortune… But I’m sure I can work a little faster now :p

After this, I started to work on the plexi part – because my small saw is damaged… anyway:

A preview – totally unfinished though :)

And ! I played with some UV plexi saw-dust (sawdust ?)

Now back to my schoolwork ! :D

thanks !!!

I began to make the horizontal beams

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/colorsbottom1.jpg

here are some pictures

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05434.jpg

They are a little bit too long, so I have to make them smaller. (I'll do that later ) :)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05439.jpg

I still need to do the front-side and the back-side. But I ran out of plexi.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05441.jpg

after a couple hours this is the result.

:O this is beautiful...

wont be long till it stands at this rate.

you ain't seen nothing yet.
A lot to come !!! (even a small glimp in this little update)

So ... a little update.
I sketched the stuts on each metal and each plexi plate (twice)
A lot of work, these things ... but I'm sure they will be worth it ;)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05458.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05461.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05452.jpg

and after this I started on something else.
I'll be jumping from one subject to another - that's my way of working, I hope you don't mind.

These are some pictures for the backside of my case.
In my last case "Helghan", I also made a big logo on the other side of the window... And with this scratch build I want to do the same.

the beginning:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05464.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05465.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05466.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05467.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05512.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05513.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05515.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05516.jpg

It will be something like you know as "steampunk".
But instead of those copper colors with the old look ... I want to make this like in the casino's.

The cogs will be made of UV orange plexi
The tubes and stuff will be very white
the background / overall color will be blue (UV)

I hope I can make this like it is in my minds.
and I hope you like it 2 :)

cheers

Thx DonT-Fear !!
It has been a while ... I'm sorry for that.
I made some progress though.

Some more sketching, an actual 1/1 scale on paper, not detailed – just for right dimensions ;)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05535.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05538.jpg

This will be huge … xD but I know I can manage to make it.

Some more sketching

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05530.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/DSC05528.jpg

I gave back the figure saw I borrowed from my uncle, In two weeks I hope to buy a new one for myself. I moved on the payout container. This is where you get your chips if you have won something.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05561.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05563.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05624.jpg

To make it a bit more stronger, I made a click system.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05599.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05598.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05570-1.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05627.jpg

It is pretty strong because I can put my grinder on it and the wood doesn’t bend at all.
The edges are smooth, and I sanded the container one more time.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05619-1.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05623.jpg

There need to be some chips in it as wel.
I thought about going to someone who could make chips with a mill, or any programmed machine. But my ego is too big, for a machine to make it – I NEED TO MAKE IT MYSELF !! :D

I stared with a sheet of plexi…

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05690.jpg

Yes I also modded the drill a bit ^^ (if you could mention it as “modding” xD )

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05692.jpg

Some round chips were born.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05689.jpg

After those, my drill … well euhm :)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05716.jpg

Ah yes … I almost forgot – I made these before I began doing the drilling of the chips (previous foto)
I made this with a small saw and curved them with a dremel.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05605.jpg

I wasn’t satisfied with the result as all, because you can see the scratches very good.
I thought about making a mould / model … maybe the result would be cooler if I used some paint.

Making the model:

Okay, here is some progress on the work…

The intake Cooling box was not entirely finished, it needed to have a plexi border.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05812.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05815.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05821.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05823.jpg

Not good, I only need the borders above the FANs, and I don’t want to see them on the box itself. So I made it a bit shorter…

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05825.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05829.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05850.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05854.jpg

That is what I wanted :D
After this, I sanded the box

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05856.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05858.jpg

Using MDF 4mm wood, I made the sides of the box…

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05863.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05866.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05867.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05872.jpg

As for now, the box is at rest… I only need to add the right orange coolers, polish the box, and use some dustfilters to complete it. :D

On to the next part ;) …
But before I began on the hard drive casings, I sanded the bottom so that I could leave it besides for a month. When I get my new figure-saw-machine, I will go on with the bottom and stuts ;)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05907.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05910.jpg

In the beginning of the week, I bought some bolts that I will use in this project (of course)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05914.jpg

And I also made the window in the bottom.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05920.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05921.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05923.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05927.jpg

- the beginning of the hard drive cases ! :D
This is the idea:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/hdd23.jpg

For sketching the right angles and round shapes, I made my own compass

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05931.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05935.jpg

Using the paper mold on the plexi…

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05936.jpg

And using the saw ^^

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05938.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05950.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05957.jpg

I need to bend these 3 sheets of Plexiglas. But with the difficult angles and problems of bending, I made the inner side of the actual box (from wood).

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05961.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05964.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05967.jpg

Using a chisel, I rounded the piece.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05968.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05971.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05974.jpg

To attach the hard drives, I will use screws with rubbers (rubbers are for later ;) )

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05976.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05977.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05985.jpg

That’s ok ! :)
Hard drives will be warm, to cool them, I will be using the cooling box (update before this update) But there needs to be a hole in the plexi so the fresh air can flow good.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05988.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC05989.jpg

A lot of things need to be done, but that’s for the next update ;)

An overview of what I have done.

I used the mold to bend the acrylic

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06008.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06006.jpg

Here you can see the Hard disks that will take place inside those hard disk casings.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06012.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06029.jpg

I also had to decide how much bolts I would use to connect the upper and lower side of the hard drive casings.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC060281-1.jpg

I choose 4 bolts, and I used some metals to connect the sides

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06037-1.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06046-1.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06047-1.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06044-1.jpg

There will be lights inside, so the orange acrylic will light up.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06063.jpg

After this, I also made the aluminum that will cover the orange acrylic

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06068-1.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06055.jpg

Because my aluminum is out of stock, I began working on the assembling of the hard drives to the case construction.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06137.jpg

Currently, that’s it for the hard drive cases. I’m waiting for lights, aluminum and high gloss paint…

My new machine finally arrived.
:D

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06138-1.jpg

So I could start making the stuts for the bottom.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/27december11.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06151.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06159.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06160.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06185.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06183.jpg

I spent several hours making these things.
There are about 72 aluminum stutts and 36 acrylic.
They all need to be glued and filed/sanded. After that, I’m making the holes and then they are finished!

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06224.jpg

The case so far…

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06238.jpg

For the assembling of the side panels and front/back panels.
I’ll use these pieces of wood (don’t know how you call them in English)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06220.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06216.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06219.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06223.jpg

Now, I don’t have to use tape anymore to assemble the case.

… the stuts are still being glued and they have to dry…

So I took the bottom reservoir at hand, and worked a bit on that.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06251.jpg

I used some glue (or something lookalike) and now, there is no more water dropping from the sides ;)

With aluminum foil, the bottom of the reservoir will be something like a mirror

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06253.jpg

This reservoir has the purpose of being eye-candy. There will be cogs in it that will flow the water around… For spinning the cogs, I’ll use a little motor.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06278.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06276.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06279.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06280.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p1/DSC06284.jpg

That’s it for now
Feel free to comment or criticize ;) ;)

Very nice work, really nice attention to detail. This thing looks like its gonna be huge! oh yeah,

For the assembling of the side panels and front/back panels.
I’ll use these pieces of wood (don’t know how you call them in English)

They are usually called "dowel rods" :)

waaaw thank you very much !! ;) you won't regret this - This will be my best project ever ! :D

As sketchup is a very simple program... there are some plugins that allow rendering. This is the result:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/render3.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/render2.jpg

every strut is made by hand, one by one...

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06298.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06297.jpg

This takes much time, so I started to calculate the cogs and gears that will come inside the "eye-candy" reservoir.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06299.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06300.jpg

First, I'm going to make them in wood... so that I can see if they really are working (because I don't want to throw away good plexi if my calculations are wrong)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06301.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06305.jpg

The idea is to put several cogs in the reservoir: as shown in the sketch:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06358.jpg

I also tested them if they give a good look with LED light.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06346.jpg

Final LEDs will be blue though ;)

I also made the other white rafters

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06349.jpg

By measuring

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06334.jpg

Struts … soon I’ll hate them ;p

There is just very much work on them, but I know it will be worth it !

Tested with a LEDlight from my bike

Then I worked a bit more on the reservoir.
There will be cogs inside the reservoir, as you may know … but the cogs/gears need to have some light too.
Therefore I’m making a wall around the res, and I’ll use aluminum foil to get some reflection.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06359.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06360.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06405.jpg

In these wooden walls, I will attach LEDs. But I also use a UV CCFL (now blue)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06364.jpg

The LEDs:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06406.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06496.jpg

Then, I went to the local hardware store to buy some paint and wires.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06573.jpg

First 2 layers of primer, then highgloss black …using this paint-tool.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06555.jpg

I painted the sidepanels, bottom panel and motherboard panel.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06545.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06546.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06582.jpg

The bottom:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06530.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06527.jpg

After 3 layers of primer on the bottom block, it’s now time for the first high gloss black layer.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06575.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06579.jpg

The day after painting this, I sanded and painted the block again.
The result of the block:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06593.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06594.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06596.jpg

The texture is a bit rough … actually this was not my intention, but it is really cool looking. I know how this comes, because the first layer primer wasn’t perfect smooth :D

The other panels got a first high gloss paint layer too.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06601.jpg

I also made a movie during the paintjob.
Note that it’s my first time painting something like this…. I think it worked out good.

Because I’m out of materials for the cogs and lights, and a lot of people don’t know what I’m making. … I’m going to make an example of the total case.
I will begin on the frame (fully MDF wood)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06769.jpg

+The top

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06771.jpg

There won’t be a bottom, because I think I like the fact that you can see the ‘mechanics and cogs from the wheels’.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06772.jpg

In every side panel there will be 4 FANs. So that makes 8 FANs on both the panels.
+ The FANs on the radiator … that will be 2x 6 (+8) = 20 FANs
I hope to get noctua fans on a lower voltage (Noctua U.L.N.)

This is … don’t know how to explain in good English :p lol
But It is for the finishing of the dust-filters (intake FANs)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06775.jpg

Then I finished the intake holes

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06780.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06793.jpg

2 finished panels

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06785.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06781.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06783.jpg

But I don’t really like the shape of the grill … hmm
Then I broke them

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06779.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06792.jpg

It’s a cleaner smoother result now, I think
But I’m going to make it better in the future

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06778.jpg

Now back to the frame

Update time !

I already started to begin on the layer where the 3 wheels will be spinning.
The back panel is almost the same as the other one.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06815.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06820.jpg

And of course also a “gap?” where the acrylic will fit in.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06819.jpg

The side panels are a little different (with different angles and so … :) )

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06822.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06824.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06830.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06833.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06834.jpg

The front side panel will be shiny. I hope to get this effect with using acrylic that will be painted high gloss on the back. So It almost look like glass.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06874.jpg

After sawing the acrylic

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06872.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06871.jpg

Because I needed some space in between the hardware layer, and the gambling wheels… I made another small layer.
this is what I mean:
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06835.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06837.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06845.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06864.jpg

Again, this basic frame is almost ready

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06875.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06855.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06856.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06857.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06858.jpg

One of the most important measurements :D

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC068621.jpg

Good! the ground is not totally even … so It may be a little bit leaning.

The highest layer is the layer of the wheel of fortune.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06882.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06888.jpg

And I will use a very thin sheet of MDF to make the top
Hehe :p – the sun is shining btw Very warm ! xD

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06885.jpg

LoL – I hope I don’t have to use these on a day

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06883.jpg

^^
The project will be very tall. About 2.5 meters high.
The weight or height doesn’t matter to me actually …
The whole case can be dissembled in 6 pieces, so I can transport it to another location without problems ;)

I also will use aluminum or another kind of metal to make the frame stronger ;)

thx !!

Alright listen up y’all ! :D

Plans are changed, well the plans in my memories actually
I planned to make something very special in the upper side (with the wheel of fortune) of the case. But now I found something cooler!
I hope I can figure out how to make it though ^^

Just like my last completed casemod HELGHAN, I had a mysterious question what would take place in the front of the case. It wasn’t a LCD, or watercooling stuff, but a HELGHAST head made out of clay.

This time I also have 2 mysterious questions in this case.
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06897-1.jpg

The second questionmark will appear in the future :)

Tomorrow, I will order the parts of the electricity, and after that I will see what I’m going to do. Probably finishing the bottom.

For the progress of the case… I couldn’t work on the frame because we are redecorating the bathroom and toilet in our home. I’ve got lots of work, but I’ll try to give you all an update on the case ;)

cheers

Waaw xD it’s a long time ago since I posted an update !
Well, XS is not the only one … I have been busy for school and other stuff … so I didn’t have a lot of time to mod.

But – here I am back again, with lots of pictures and info

It’s time for a huge UPDATE !!! Elements of Fortune !!!

In the beginning of august, I bought some new tools for a good price.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07456.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07455.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07449.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07452.jpg

There goes my money :P blahblah, I’m happy ! At least I got some good quality tools now ;)

I also made some orders in China for LEDs and electronics, and I got some very nice stuff from MDPC-x.
And because pictures say more than 1000 words : tadaa

The package from China

PSUs

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07596.jpg
Little motors

And for these things, I also made a “cabinet” ? Well I mean a thing to store things :P

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07582.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07614.jpg

Kinda WaW huh !? :P This cabinet will be empty once I finished this mod ;)

And then another package from Germany…

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07258.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07264.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07260.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07263.jpg

Now this is quality stuff :o !! amazing

I will sleeve this 1200W PSU from BeQuiet and all the other cables that will be visible inside the project.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07357.jpg

-- aye – now all eyes back to the case

We continue from here:
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06897.jpg

Still remember it? Here we go
I continued with the bottom side of the case, the part where the hardware will fit in.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06952.jpg

Before that, I had no idea what colors I would be using. But when buying the sleeving and LEDs, I made a decision.

Colors will be: Black, white, orange and aluminum
The hardware components will be black/ orange / the cable-sleeving as well. :)

So I needed to find a color for the background … White !
To make a good white (and not gray looking background) I bought some white acrylic. Behind that white acrylic, I will use small White LEDs to give it a cool look.

Placing of the LEDs
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06953.jpg

Started to soldering
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06955.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06961.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06958.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06962.jpg

It’s still a dark look, so let’s begin with making the acrylic.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07359.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07361.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07368.jpg

It looks great when because it has a good contrast with the hardware ;)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07365.jpg

I’m not really satisfied with the result, So I will also make LEDs in the bottom.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07653.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07652.jpg
Don’t mind the rusty look, it will be painted :D

Without acrylic
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07659.jpg

With
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07660.jpg

Still looks a bit dark on the right side… that is because the background is black. I tested the difference with a white sheet of paper. Much better ;)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07664.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07667.jpg

But I’m not going to use paper … aluminum is a better quality material. And I will paint it white in the future.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07685.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07687.jpg

I used small bolts most of the places. Because they would dim the small LEDs.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07693.jpg

The other ones I gave a smooth finish :P
http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07740.jpg

Meanwhile I also worked on the struts beneath the hardware layer.
Remember these?

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC06965.jpg

They will be blue – started with soldering

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07623.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07615.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07626.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07630.jpg

Still needs a lot of work, but this is the goal:

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07629.jpg

The UV LEDs on top are fitted on the bottom plate. Ready and steady ^^

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07643.jpg

UV power ! Perfect angle for that eye-candy reservoir. (It doesn’t shine everywhere, only where needed)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07642.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07646.jpg

The eye-candy reservoir needs to look cool and shiny. After a while I decided not the use aluminum foil but a sheet of aluminum. This will be polished ;)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07682.jpg

---
So I started working again with the white acrylic.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07733.jpg

If you take a good look, you will see that I made place for the power supply unit.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07726.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07727.jpg

Whoooo that’s a close one! But it works ;) :)

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07741.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07742.jpg

After filing and sanding …Looks good huh?

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07744.jpg

Aye, another bend

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07745.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07747.jpg

Yuppie, I made it ! :P me looking very happy because working with the acrylic is a tough job. But I’m starting to learning it ^^

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07754.jpg

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07757.jpg

But here we go again :P a small problem …

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07760.jpg

The power supply cable is a little bit bigger because it is a 1200W PSU…
ARGH !!!

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x205/tomcat175/ELEMENTSOFFORTUNE/p2/DSC07761.jpg

I mailed to BeQuiet for finding a nice solution… If there isn’t a solution, I’ll make one myself :D
- make a 90° angle in the cable
- or make a gap in the frame so the cable would fit
- maybe something else I could do ? hmm

Well – more coming soon ;)
I think I continue working on the hard drive casings, and continue with the white acrylic.

cheers
Tom
