"Tin of kippers". Brilliant!

I've got a few Dream Machine processors to give away, by the way. *grin* For that matter, I've got a few K6-2/333s too...

Oh, and up until a couple years ago, the budget machine's CD-ROM drive was the same one I ran in my computer. And those ALPS floppy drives are indestructible.

I love the Budget's OS: Linux $0.

And I still use the Logitech MouseMan+.

Hitachi 19 inch monitor $600, with a resolution of what? 1024x768 that won't display correctly for another two years? lol. I just ordered a widescreen 1440x900 19" for $99, and that will probably drop off another $10-20 in the next 6 months.

Is it sad that the price of the RAM is equal to the cost of my computer x5?

My current rig cost me $0, including the OS. The only thing I spent money on was WoW.

I just had to capture this. It's the back cover of the same issue. Just hilarious!!

I have a Dell P120C sitting in my closet (came with a Pentium 120MHz). I was using that keyboard until it died, and I have the Altech Lansing speakers sitting in a drawer right next to me.

When I first got into computers, a typical second hand price for a hdd was £1/MB so a 1.6GB would have been £1,600 except they didn't exist back then.

That was when the 486DX2/66 was the fastest around and yes, I had one.

Haha, +rep! I'd give 'em $22.99 for it today - the QuietKey alone is worth half that, after all.

You wanna buy the quietkey from me? I can see if it really did stop working, or if it was just a problem with that PS/2-USB adapter.

Nah, I've got one here on my backup machine, and I love it, but I don't really need another. For the price of a new keyboard, though, a new QuietKey for $12 stacks up well if you actually plan to use your computer.

I'll stand behind you if you say IT'S AWESOME, though, and could probably be persuaded if you want it gone.

I'm not sure if I want it gone. It is definitely of higher quality than the keyboard that came with my HP Pavilion running Windows ME. Something that would really be nice would be one of these (http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/cus101usenon.html).

Yeah, newer bundled keyboards are rubbish. Keep the QuietKey, you won't regret it.

Anything with clickyswitches is inherently good... My Dell AT101W (http://www.clickykeyboards.com/index.cfm/fa/categories.main/parentcat/20188) seems to have kicked the bucket; I have to open it up and track down the problem, maybe solder in a new cable if need be - I LIKE that 'board.

EDIT: I just did, and found that two inside plastic supports had lanced through the circuit board, and disassembling and desoldering each individual keyswitch would be necessary if I was to even attempt to repair it. It's buggered.

My parents' one that came with their emachines died and now they're using a Gateway that came with an original Gateway Profile. I don't even buy new keyboards; I just use old ones until they die. I got a few out the trash, so I should be good for a while. But I'd still like one of those model Ms. My dell keyboard is from 1995.

Idk, I love that 128MB DDR-100. Talk about fast RAM!

My parents have since upgraded the amount in their computer but it's all DDR-100 still. The worst part is that it's much more expensive than the 4GB of PC-6400 RAM I have in my machine:eek:

I can't believe you'd let them have a PoS computer without building them something newer

But that's fine for the average person who just browses the internet a little and plays the games that come with the computer (i.e. solitare)

Swap solitaire with freecell and you just described my dad. The comp does alright for my parents most of the time. Specs are a P4 1.6GHz, 512MB PC-100 RAM (upgraded from 256MB), a Radeon 7000 (for dual monitor support), all on an ASUS P4B series mobo. Granted it's slow compared to most systems today but it suites their needs and they refuse to let me upgrade (I may have mentioned it more than once8)). Original retail price was $2100 and tax in 2002, so yes, things have come a long way since then.
