Hayup boys and girls,

A while ago i mentioned i wanted to build a miniture copy of my car,
Now im not working, i have a bit more spare time on my hands.

This is the model kit i will be using:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/001.JPG
This is the closest model of my car i can find, so some modification is needed

First up is to check all the parts:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/002.JPG

and fetch the modeling kit:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/003.JPG

so i break out the 100grit sand paper and start on removing the bonnet air intakes:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/004.JPG
working my way upto 600grit to prep for the bondo.

then i noticed the roof scoop, i did start sanding it off but it didn't want to happen, so i got the hacksaw blade to it:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/005.JPG

sliced down both sides:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/006.JPG

and removed:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/007.JPG

i glued some old stryne strips underneeth the hole:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/008.JPG

now i am really sorry, but i forgot to take photos of the bondo stage, so will will skip to the painting stage:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/009.JPG

Two layers of primer, 6 Layers of Ford Aqua Mettalic Blue (Colour Matched)

Here is the body cleared and washed with car wash shampoo:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/010.JPG

here is a photo of the body primed, painted, two layers of clear, washed, t-cut'd, polished and waxed!

Tomorrow i will put it together, and await the custom decals of my number plates and the stickers in the windows so i can call it a copy

(Minus the fact its a 3 door model and i have a 5 door car

You don't have that front bumper either, do you?

We the people demand model-on-hood-of-real-car photos! I'd consider doing something like this, but Ertl/Revell probably don't sell Volvo 240 models. Then again, I could paint a housebrick blue and achieve much the same effect. :D

Cool. Can't wait to see how it turns out. The last model I did was a 67 GT500, but I got so pissed at it I destroyed it. I got a cheapo 15$ kit, and almost half of the parts were incorrect and didn't match up right. The damn thing looked dilapidated, even though it had a damn good paint job.

That was before I realized I could mod the pieces I need or create my own from plastic/styrene. Ahhh the enlightenment the modding scene brings upon you. . .

as requested:

model of car on hood of real car:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/P190209_11.03.JPG

and on the windowsill:

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/TBCS_Group/xcom/focus/P190209_09.47.JPG

next up is the number plates and window decals, then im getting some fibreoptics and some LED's to make the lights light up. Got to contact the manufacturer to see if i can get a replacement part, one of the light covers was missing.

Also got to get some styrine to make the body match, then get an old car kit to rip the back seats out to make it match.

Thoughts sofar?

I'm seriously retarded. I was looking at the pic of your Focus and I was like: "Why is the steering wheel on that side?"

Anyway, what year/type do you have? My wife and I have a 2001 Focus ZTS (All leather!)

My last model was the Millenium Falcon!

Wow! Mine's an '89 (which externally looked the same as the '86s) in that color, but it's just flat (not metallic) and it's a sedan. Glad to know they're out there, though... +rep

I'm getting either an Ex demo 2008 Zetek or an 08 Lancer ES. I'm leaning towards the Focus though, drives much better.

The model is looking really nice. When I get my car I will also make a model ;).

us model or euro model, the euro version has better overall peformance will cost you a hell of a lot less to run than the us version.

The Zetec is a better version as it has 16v which gives you improved peformance and incresed MPG, it also add's stiffened suppension,

My version is the Zetec SE which is as above, but i have refitted sports suppension, and an improved EMS and the BHP is upped, all of which is useless as i've got an automatic so it all goes to waste and drives my MPG through the floor to 30-35MPG, bloddy crap! i used to get 45-50MPG from my old 2 ltr rover!

PICO systems are great for cars. Low cost, small and pretty flexible. Creative are making head units with built in sound cards now lol.

You could fit a gumstix in your model car.
