The pirate bay trial started on the 16th of febuary, http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2009/02/pirate.html
half the charges were dropped on the second day.
And so it begins...
So what do you think the outcome of this is going to be? Will TPB's creators be jailed or will they go free? What is your take on the entire attitude and actions of TPB?
they will go free. they havent done ANYTHING illigal. and as long as it is that way, i hope that they will never be shut down or anything like it.
in our country they have started blocking for tpb and i think its the stuppiest thing ever done. you cant censur an internet site just beacuse some company´s threaten with lawsuites etc.
if this goes on, suddenly we will have a chine looking world in wich a few people decides what we can and cant see. what happened with the freedom of speach? you might as well be in one huge jail cell.
all tpb does is to link to torrents that could be illigal stuff. it might as well be demo games, personal pics, etc etc. if they win this case, they could start suing google next? a few search on google will lead to just as much illigal material.
the pirate bay just simplified it a bit:)

Nothing that's illegal in Sweden, at least.

+rep, as I agree fully. The legal responsibility is on the uploader and, in most jurisdictions, the downloader - you can't prosecute a search engine, after all, and it's not as if they hire people to find torrents manually, so there's no real fault there.

Doesn't matter to me. I have never dowloaded anything illegal/suspicious. Every video/song in my 2000+ collection I paid for.
+...... you can't prosecute a search engine......
if they did google could be next!

you forget, it DOES matter to you even if you never downloaded anything. it matters that if they force this through they can force the isp´s to block for all sites that they find illigal, or the sites they just dont like.
its like putting the patriot act on the web!
if i was sitting in china right now, and started a thread about "human rights in china" this site would be blocked by chineese gouverment. is that what we want?
