Hey everybody I am still pretty new to Rig building although my first build is now a little over 6months old. Here is my question I have a 37GB raptor series drive that I used as a boot drive (drive C). I finally have gotten around the money to get extra storage and plan on getting a 150-300GB velociraptor. This is purley a gaming PC amd i need to know how to get my drives to basically function as one. As most games that don't allow you to choose your install folder primarily install to drive C. I need to know how to add an HDD and make the C drive appear as if there is a massive amount of free space on it. For example Spore's patches always self install to the Cdrive and right now im using a 500GB external drive F so obviously the patches never make it to the desired location. How can i correct this once i get another internal drive? oh BTW I have no idea how to setup a raid and I also already have alot of stuff such as web links and crap like that already on that C drive. I wont have to erase it to do this will I? and will all my windows updates be able to download to this second drive? Just curious because of the fact that visat 64 ate up 27 out of the 37 GB on that boot drive. I know i zam talking in circles but if anyone can make sense of this the help would be most apreciated. Thanks to all.

Best option - ditch the 37GB raptor as an OS drive and install from scratch on the new drive. Offload the page file to the 37GB raptor after you've transferred all your data from it.

And if you do custom setup, most programs let you chose where to install. I think you can even change the default install drive/directory.

well thats my problem games like Spore will allow a custom install where i can assign the install to my external drive but when a patch tries to be applied it automatically puts it into the folder in my C drive where Spore would usually be found. And GTA4 does a system scan and doesnt even recognize the external drive as a possible install source so it just pops up as my system is not compatible. not to mention my windows updates being installed on my C drive= mucho space consumption.

Oh, I see. I think I also ran into those problems sometimes when I was using a separate drive for programs and storage.

i run a os drive and programs only drive. i have no issues with any patchs or updates. i've never seen a game that won't let you install where you want or patch.
AFAIK it knows that you've installed it onto another drive.
now my programs drive is almost full and i wonder what will happen if i start installing onto another drive...

If you are using an external drive that uses the USB interface, most programs wont be able to install to it because they see it as removable storage.
Adding the new large drive internally should be recognized as a valid installation path. If not, you can always image the current drive to the new one, then wipe the small one and have your swap file on there for a performance gain. :)
