This is an explanatory thread for all the users here, to let some of us get to know your others' backstories.

1. Why did you start modding?

2. Why did you join TBCS?

3. What was the inspiration or reason for your first mod?

1. I have been into BYOPC for the past three years, and to me modding was the next logical step. I had seen plenty of cool mods through StumbleUpon, and honestly I was most intrigued by the Doom3 and R2D2 mods. Imagine my surprise when I figured out prominent TBCS members made them.

2. I Googled "computer case modding" and TBCS was the first forum to pop up. It seemed like an exceptionally friendly place, and I joined immediately. In my short, 6 month time span of modding, I have yet to join another modding forum.

3. My first case is/was Passion. My girlfriend needs a new computer, and she wants to be able to game so I bit the bullet and built her a computer instead of having her dad buy her another POS laptop. As many have mentioned, I have a good looking girlfriend and I'm genuinely smitten with her, so the theme for Passion came naturally.

Now you.

1. I started modding after I built my first pc and wanted to pimp it out.

2. Like most Googled Case modding lurked for a few weeks then joined!

3. Wanted to pimp my case and make it CS themed as that was my favorite game at the time.

I think there was a thread like this earlier this month. But that might have been what got you into casemodding.

I was looking for NES PCs on google and found one of D_Stilgar's here.

i am more into the performance of computers vs the looks. but that being said i like all the mods here and enjoy looking at them.

1. i have done a couple of mods that i basically did as a result of joining the site. (altoids mouse, half completed window mod, failed windowed hard drive mod (i knew that would happen), and little things here and there)

2. i can't remember if i googled computer forum or computer modding or something along those lines but tbcs was the first thing that showed up on google. i joined and 3400 posts later i am still here.

3. to be honest the main reason for my mouse mod was for rep, i admit it i was a pretty big rep whore... i've long since gotten over that and now just lurk around and help when it comes to building pcs and water cooling loops.

1. ive always been a very "custom" person. ive always tinkered with things, taken them apart chaged them up etc. my first custom loves were paintball markers. then one night i was hanging out with some friends playing some counterstrike and started getting into computers and how they worked. so of course custom case was next.

2. i cant even answer this question. it happened wayyy too long ago, but im sure when i was looking into modding i came across doom 3... or i had seen pauls book and got the web address from there. i really cant say lol

3. refer to #1

DF was into modding a long time before me, and he was about halfway through Moditor when he told me 'Chris, you watch me mod all the time and say that its pretty cool, so now youre gonna do one yourself'. After that, I ordered my Hush and began work after a very light think-session with DF. Joining TBCS was always going to happen becasue of DF and him telling me all about it, so I thought, yeah, why not?

And thats about it.

1. My first computer was a salvaged P100 that I had to "mod" to get a CD-ROM drive in it (it was a weird industrial format motherboard-daughterboard configuration). So I began modding out of necessity.

2. I used to lurk around the forums/site before the current site design, back when Paul Capello was in the middle of building Doom3: Project Mars City. Really liked the quality of work going on in the mods on this site, including the many HP case mods by Defyant.

3. My first "mod" of new equipment was a wooden hard drive enclosure, inspired by some of the wood mini ITX computer mods that I've seen around the internet. Haven't done anything that I've deemed 'internet worthy', yet, though two projects are in the works (time is a big problem for me at the moment due to classes).

I saw that it was a very knowledgeable group of kind, mature people. Members work together with pretty much anything anyone has to post and all without bickering, flaming or judging.

I enjoy working on computers and although I'm not too into the DIY customizing aspect of modding, I enjoy reading about new tricks some of you share not to mention the worklog threads demonstrating the insane amount of creativity and soul you guys put into your work.

I joined this forum to learn from others and to share what I can but mostly I joined because of the community. There's a lot of good people here... If I wanted just information my home page would instead be Google. :)

1. Necessity. The very first thing that I modded was my first drumset. The retaining screw on the T-bar holding the toms above the bass drum gotten stripped out, so I busted out the drill, followed by a tap and die set. I haven't looked back since.

2. Doom 3: PMC. When I saw that build, I knew I was not alone. :D

3. My first case mod was inspired by Eddie Van Halen (Frankenstripe mach 1, an very old PII). I've continued on with that theme with Project Frankenstripe, which will be done this spring/summer.

1. I started modding shortly after I got my first PC. My first mod was the installation of a 120mm blue LED Thermaltake fan followed shortly after by a side window and a paint job. I have always enjoyed tinkering with gadjets and playing with electronics and models.

2. I stumbled apon TBCS by chance when I was looking for ideas for an industrial/rusty case mod after seeing pics of a HL2 mod. TBCS was the first hit in google under "case modding" and after seeing Paul's Doom3 mod I had all the inspiraation I needed and signed up straight away. Sadly that industrial mod was never started lol.

3. The moment I saw the NZXT LEXA I knew I had to have it, I loved that case. It was and still is a very unique case with very stricking asthetics. Even though I loved the LEXA I wanted to give it my own personal touch and after finding no other LEXA mods at that point in time I knew I had to mod it. Since I started my Project: LEXA mod I have found 1 award winning LEXA mod that was completed before mine, used the same colour scheme also. There are also a few others that were started and finished during the time it took me to complete LEXA. I like to think I started a trend lol :D.

1. I was working on minor updates for Doom 3 engine, I went looking for references for my newest integrated terrain system for the Doom 3 and did the old simple search of 'Doom 3 modification' in Google and found Mr.Capello's thread of the Doom 3 case. On one day in 2005 my life literally changed. I never thought to BYOPC on the outside too, see his thread gave me tons of ideas, I just never had the time (or money for that matter).

Then a few days ago I remember his project after seeing a picture of his computer on another forum (you were fully credited btw), and went searching on the internet and found this forum again and decided to do something of my own.

2. To feed my artistic needs, if I don't do something artistic for a few days I would probably go crazy!

3. To simply get into moding with a simple, not to much art related (not to much painting and stuff....) computer case mod. If I get an air brush kit it will probably be fully painted.

I did it for the company car and TBCS corporate jet. But then again, I'm shallow.

1: I started modding when I got my first case with a side window and red LED case fans, and it took off from there :D

2: I joined because of TribalOverkill's Liquid Evolution (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2842) (who unfortunately seems to have disappeared some time ago). I was (and still am) AMAZED by his creativity and work. I lurked for a few weeks, following his builds and checking out the site, then joined.

3: My first mod job (if you can call it that) was adding water cooling and UV CCFLs to my new Armor case. My first real mod is my scratch-build Rockin Case, which came from my wife's guitar-playing and wanter her own computer. My second, Project Monster, came from my love for Monster and the sport(s), and I'm doing it as a gift for my brother (modding a free case, then transferring his guts to it).

1. I first started modding in middle school, I had not even heard of modding but I felt like making my computer different so I took apart a Mac I had and spray painted it red along with a keyboard and mouse.

2. Actually I found out about case modding by accident, was looking for info on hacking my CVS disposable digital camera (anyone remember those). Ended up finding a tutorial on gideontech and from there found the forum, at which point I started browsing and decided to join. I realized later that the forum was mostly dead other than some opinionated hanger ons, and kinda left the site. Later I decided to look up casemods, found the project log for Jon's Doom III case, was awestruck kinda. Browsed the forums and decided to join.

3. First mod was the Mac Performa I mentioned before. The inspiration for the project was to be different, and to do something custom by myself.

I must say joining this site has been great. Met a lot of cool people, and know i have an international friend base. Even made some offline friends as well.

actually it was a kidney that was sold. Jon got me really drunk and removed it while I slept. Then, mysteriously the styrofoam beer cooler and all the ice went missing...

I remember hearing a chopper landing in the front yard, people speaking with a Colombian accent, and thats about it.

Yeah tribal was a great inspiration. Sadly he had a rough run. He has no workshop and can no longer mod under the name "tribaloverkill". He is re-inventing himself and will be back soon ;).

I couldn't find what I wanted, how I wanted it. That, and I was getting sick of beige. Being cheap was (and still is) a major factor as well - working with what you have, rather than buying what you'd like it to be.

I don't remember how I got here, to be honest. Probably was linked to some project or another - I remember Defyant's bondo and reservoir work having a major impact on me earlier on.

My first mod was simply pulling the outer panels off of my main rig at the time, a Duron 900 system of no particular merit, and giving 'em a coat of red Rustoleum. I've undertaken a number of minor projects since, but can't seem to finish one entirely, either due to a lack of resources (my early modding was limited to work with a hacksaw and file) or loss of inspiration. I've got half a dozen things going right now, but only two, sometimes three of them in any state of activity - this is why I don't tend to post my logs on here!

Anyway, the inspiration seems to be "function over form", in general, at least where actual computer cases are concerned. The other mods - PC Load Letter, the electric Smith-Corona I haven't named yet - don't really fall into that category. ;)
