I recently installed freenas on a VIA system I had laying around. I havent built the case for it yet but thats another story. I like it so far. Very easy to setup and the OS is running from an old USB drive I had. The hard drive is currently formatted as UTF but I may try a fat32 so windows can recover the files if something goes nuts. But so far it has cost me $0 to setup my own NAS.
