I have to be honest that I had never even heard of the book, or knew that there was a series of them before hearing of this movie. Despite the big following of the book series, I had pretty low expectations for this movie.

The story starts with a teenage girl leaving Arizona to move back in with her father in Washington (state). She's immediately accepted at her new school (unlike real life), and starts making friends, but falls for the "hot mysterious guy" who everyone warns her to stay away from.

One thing leads to another, and they end up dating, then some other stuff happens, and it turns out he's a vampire. (This would get me an F in school, I know.)

Hope I didnt spoil the story for anyone.. haha.

The movie is more of a love story than a vampire movie, but I have to say that it was MUCH better than I expected. The soundtrack is phenomenal and really adds to the atmosphere and the feel of the film.

The acting is all pretty good with mostly unknowns and new faces, and despite the awkwardness portrayed at the beginning of the film, it really helps explain the story, and wasn't just lack of chemistry between the lead actors as I originally thought. They have genuine chemistry, which just takes some time to develop on screen.

I think that if you havent seen this movie, go see it.. it's worth a watch. :) I think I'll be buying it when it comes out on DVD, and I'm definitely interested in seeing the rest of the series now.

Not bad,

I had to read the book for school, and let me say it was nothing like the movie...

I have to be honest that I had never even heard of the book,

How have you never heard of it? There is something on the news about it everyday!

Anyways, not bad.

Worst review ever.

lol are you commenting on your own review? What, do you have multiple personality disorder? :p

As for the movie; worst vampire movie ever. But if you went in expecting it not to be a vampire movie, it was probably alright. But I was hoping for a sweet vampire movie, so I left pretty disappointed. lol

Yes, I was commenting on my own review. :)

As it was, I went into it expecting a love story.. my wife wanted to watch it, so we watched it together, and I think I enjoyed it more than she did. :D

I thought it was a decent movie. It definitely entertained me for however long it was, but there was a bit of stuff not explained in much detail in the movie... but what can you expect from a movie based off a book?

I haven't read the books yet. I'm not sure when I will but odds are I'll get around to it eventually after I have more time and the hype has gone down a bit, lol.

So they are working on the second in the series now.. and they've just cast... Dakota Fanning. I'm trying to reserve judgement on this.

She had a role in "Push" which I thought she did alright at... but that movie was like a B-Movie anyway, lol.

My girlfriend and her galpals are incredibly huge fans of the book and the movie. I haven't read the books, but I know more about them than the average moviegoer from just hearing them fawn over it.

If you haven't seen the movie yet I can help Luke break it down a bit:
1. If you have read the books, you will most likely be disappointed the first time, but will enjoy it after you see it two or three times. However, if you are a fan of the book, this wont apply to you since you have probably already seen it 20 times since it came out.
2. If you have not read the books, you will find it fairly interesting and an all-around decent movie. There are some cheap tricks and unexplained subplots and background, but all around you wont completely detest the movie.

To anyone considering reading the books, they can best be described as teen romance novels. However, that title can be misleading as what critics classify as 'teen' is actually the normal reading level of most adults. So if you read it, prepare to be sucked in by a love story about vampires with a bit of history and the occult, decent descriptions and lengthy discussions about boys. Don't, however, expect The Great Gatsby (which to some is a good thing).

This is my favorite part of my whole review.

I think I'll pass on this one--sounds like a very bad emo rehash of Bram Stoker's masterpiece.

I mean, seriously, a vegetarian vampire? FAIL.

The term "vegetarian" refers to him refusing to attack people, so they only drink from animals. :)

I've read the first two books as the SO loves all of them. Saw the movie with her when it came out. I don't know why people said the movie sucked compared to the book because it really didn't. People complained about Edward's character in the movie because he looked sick and disgusted the first half, which apparently didn't read well enough to understand why. He wanted to eat her; her smell completely dominated his senses to the point of frustration and disgust. He wanted to destroy her so badly, yet loved her instantly at the same time. Made sense to me, but so many people got pissed because of his faces.

Things that were cut from the movie made sense to me. Nothing major was lost and the changes made seemed for the better for the movie. Nothing was really all that different anyway.

And thankfully Dakota Fanning is just going to be playing Jane in the second movie. So a very small small role in retrospect. She only comes into play right at the end, and even then is just to prove a point about the main character, and keep Edward in line =).

Ya, I just ruined my hardcore modder rep.. Ohh well.

Bah. Idiocy.

So, tell me, what happens if one of these "vegetarian" vampires meets up with a werewolf? Can't attack him unless the lycanthropy is in full force?

Carrot juice is murder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmK0bZl4ILM), after all.

I think this thread just got a whole helluva lot weirder. :D

Well, technically werewolves arent "people" per se.. so there should be no problems. I get the feeling we'll find out in the next movie. :D

per se

Hahaha, I can't help but laugh at that after that South Park episode.

They don't have an issue fighting werewolves, if it comes to that. In the books werewolves were designed specifically for fighting vampires. Werewolves were the line of defense.

Not sure if you're going to see a vampire and werewolf fight, but there will be tension and lots of it. There will be a complete domination, but I'll leave it at that.

In the end though, its a love story. No other way to cut it. I just try and imagine more manly battles and such, but once those are over you're back to the "Oohhh I love you, I love you, I love you"'s and "I love you more"'s, just with some tension and fantasy mixed in lmfao. The SO has been bugging me to read the last two books but I know its all lovey, and I don't want it to ruin what I picture going on, with super vampire/werewolf battles and such lol; Blood, guts, and manliness muahahaha. Not really, but ehh, I gotta try and hide this.

From what I've heard Girlfriend talk about, you will be super disappointed in the third book then.

Ya the SO has hinted at what is going to happen so I pretty much have an idea. I was just saying that I'm injecting my own story into the real one that way its not so embarrassing to state I've read them lmfao.
