This was my first real go at a case mod, nothing great but I'm happy with the results. I love etching and have been doing it on and off for years, but I may have gone with something a bit complex for a first time window.

Big fan of Hellsing, so this was an easy choice. The real image I used was mirrored, this was simply a test to see if my ancient printer could even print the thing. (It can't print text documents that are legible anymore.)
So I cut the Hole into the side of an old case I had sitting around.

Got the etching ready to go.

But I misjudged the size I had to work with, so I lose the bottom inch or so from the etching, not a horrible loss really, but a rookie mistake.

I'll update this once I get a couple more red LED's to show the lighting. I thought I had 3 or 4 laying around but I was sadly mistaken.
That's all for now, comments are appreciated.

Etching looks really good! I think your window cut out isnt quite square, but it still looks really good, and it'll be great to see it lit up. :D

Yea, I don't have the steadiest of hands when cutting with my dremel I found out, but a little practice should improve on that.
But thank you both, despite it being slightly lopsided I was happy with the result.

Great work on the etching that'll look very good when installed with lighting , dremel can take a fair bit of practice to tame:D, hope you use safety glasses, when i started i did not and could have lost an eye:eek:
hellsing was pretty cool anime :D i have an old trigun scratch i did using exacto blades then filled the groove with permanent black marker and then sanded to give it some definition on my old lian li aluminium case side panel, i'll get a pic up soon, did it because the side panel was huge and there was a plain spot which needed something extra:D.

Not bad for a first attempt. We all gotta start somewhere. One tip that alot of people on here do is mark the cut w/masking tape then cut inside the line and even the edge out with a file. Once you get used to doing stuff with th e dremel you'll get to the point where you're doing less filing. +rep for a nice looking etch.

All right, another etcher! Tell me your secrets!
I generally use the teardrop shaped etching bit in my dremel, what's your favorite?

I mostly use the teardrop as well when etching, though I do have the larger bit that looks like a gear gone evil (I can't remember the name of the bit at the moment). But it's only used when I etch in thicker plexi, or lexan or acrylic or whatever you want to call it, and even then only after I etch with the smaller bit first.
To everyone else, thanks for the rep and kind words. Working on something much larger now, will take me a long time to get it all done but I'll take pics as I do it.
are you going to make a refrence to alucard in the case somewhere? i think it would compement the window etch (Which i might add is freeking sweet!)

yeah a piece with alucards crazy grinning face could look great to go with the fantastic etch you have done.
here is my 1st attempt at a window and the vash the stampede from trigun i said about, i did not use an engraving tool i just used a exacto knife then covered it with a permanent black marker and then sanded over it all so it just left the black in the cut marks, turned out ok, did it on my Lian-Li PC-A70A the case is huge

I'm thinking about doing something like that eventually, but me and a friend are doing something big atm so it will be on the backburner for now.

That Vash is awesome, I might have to give etching onto the metal of the case a try at some point, got a friend going to give me a couple ancient trash cases to practice on/ use for scrap metal.
And thanks to both of you, I thought the etching turned out rather well all things considered, the one I've done since then (something for my daughter) looks better, but I used a better grade of plexi to do it. If I can get my old camera working once more I'll throw some pictures up.

Here are two etchings I did recently.
This one is for my daughter, going to have it framed with a couple pink LEDs to light it up.

And this one is for my wife. She wants a rainbow affect, so we will see how that goes this weekend.

Going to hit up radioshack this weekend to get the LEDs I need since I don't have any left over right now.
