View Full Version : Thinking of putting in my 2 weeks...

I'm getting so tired of my job. I was hired on as seasonal at Toys R Us back in November. Since then the 40 hour weeks have diminished and most employees have been looking at 4 to 12 hours a week. Lately most of us have been averaging 8 hours a week with either 2x4 hour days or 1x8.
Today I work 8am to noon and just thinking about going in and busting my ass for 30 bucks turns my stomach. I'm a part of the truck/stocking crew and trust me... it's not worth doing for minimum wage.
I feel terrible complaining considering how many people would love to have a job right now but I would imagine most wouldn't be too excited about 95 dollars bi-weekly.
I think the biggest part of my hate towards my job is due to my lack of sleep... I simply can't sleep anymore. I been averaging about 3 hours a night and it's definitely been catching up to me.
Blah. What do you guys think? What do you guys do for your supplement incomes? I'd imagine whatever you guys do to supplement your income is probably bringing in more than my crummy job.

Don't just up and leave your current job. Yes I know you hate it but start looking for a new job and if you get hired some were else you can put in your two weeks.
Wow I didn't even release I broke 300 post and you just hit it...

Agreed.. find something else before you leave. OR... if they can at least guarantee you the same shift every week (the same 2x4 or 1x8) then you can find another job, and do both. The variety will help keep you fresh, and you'll have 2 sources of income. :)

Man i know the feeling. I work retail and I'm getting pretty sick of it myself. And amen to unloaders not getting payed enough. I double as a sales associate / unloaded (which is BS, I'm just supposed to be a sales associate) and unloaders are highly under-appreciated. I sort of have the opposite problem though lol. i hate working 40 hour weeks all the time.
My employer likes to play games. I get 2 weeks were i work a nice 10am-7pm and then conveniently as I'm finally getting set in to my new sleep schedule they will change it to 4pm to 1am in the back room unloading trucks. I'm not even technically available then. They were cutting hours and when I asked for more my manager asked if it was ok to override my Availability to which i mistakenly said yes. Now it doesn't mean anything. Oh well. I work for a company thats not going anywhere any time soon so i guess its just job security.
Sorry for the rant... It's been killing me.
Edit: oh I also say don't quit unless you already got another job lined up.
Another thing that annoys me... I get 2 days off a week and sometimes they will give me those days on the first two days of the week and the next week they will give me those days at the end of the week so I end up working 8-10 days straight. When the 8th or 9th day rolls around I just have such a hard time caring at all.

Is that were they strike my name off the list of employees because i stood outside w/ a sign instead of doing some work?

If anyone else hates the job like you do, then they will follow suit. Get attention. Make a scene.

Employers don't give a ****. Oh hey, you don't want to work? Well then it was nice knowing you. Now get off company property before I call the cops. /imaginary situation.
What I don't get is all those people with their heads real far up their butt that think money is the sole reason for life. All they want to do is get a lot of money and then they don't know where to go from there. *shrug*
