Those are the UGLIEST netbooks I have seen yet, although I do like how they did the screen. They don't even have any real specs to boast about either. The word on the street is that the pricing is going to be £399 in the UK and £499 in Germany, no word for US as of yet.

Maybe its just me? What do you guys think, like the new design?

That thing has similar specs as my NC10 but I think it's kinda fugly. Perhaps there's a reason to mod it? lol

I'm surprised I haven't seen more netbook mods that deal with the chassis. Actually, I don't think I've seen any at all. I would LOVE to see someone mod a netbook and replace the entire chassis with a scratch-built one. I've always wanted to do that. I would replace the chassis entirely with plexi (maybe smoked?) and have it very squared looking, sort of like the Voodoo Envy 133 or the Dell Adamo. It would be pretty cheap too considering a netbooks size.

I would mod mine had I the patience for it. I plan on making a custom decal for it when I can afford to do so. Anybody know of a decent website or store that I could have print the decal for me for a reasonable price?

You might want to try Skinit.com or MyTego.com? I think DecalGirl.com has some custom options as well, but not sure.

Alright, thanks. I'll take a look.

EDIT: Okay, nobody had my netbook on there but I submitted a request that they add it to their list.

I don't know why it's so hard to integrate a slot loading drive these days

I know. I looked up the price of the one made for my netbook and it's ~$180. I'm glad I already have two external DVD drives, even though they don't conveniently fit onto the bottom of this thing.

It probably comes down to a size thing. Where would you put one if you could? You have to remember that a lot of netbooks are only around an inch thick, how thick is a slot loading drive? There just isn't enough room more than likely.

I don't even remember the last time I used a disc anyways, other than out of sheer convenience. Everything is so digital these days. The only time I would ever truly need a disc drive is for installing an OS. Even then I think there are ways around that.

I think the disc is dying out, being replaced by digital downloads and microchips. Personally, I think thats awesome. If everyone switched over to thumb drives, the beneficial technological advancements that would spawn from that would be awesome. The disc is a dead-end at this point, there really is no future for it. There is a pretty large future for microchips though, and once things become more mainstream, they really start to take off.

Well, that got a little off topic. lol

But yea, I think it just comes down to a size thing. They could probably design a special one just for netbooks, but I wouldn't want to pay the extra for it, especially considering how rarely I would probably use it. The cost of research and development combined with companies jacking up the price for the "special" models that come with a slot load drive would be painful.

Update: Here is a photo set of the 1004DN. Pretty sexy looking! It definitely looks styled after the 1002HA, one of my favorite models!
