I saw this a while ago but I figured I'd share now since I was just reminded about it. I also ordered 10 of them for fun so I'll post my experiments here soon enough.

Sounds interesting. Let us know what you think of it.

I saw that fruit on CSI:NY. I was wondering if the fruit was real.

My tablets came in today so I went over to VONS and picked up a bunch of random produce.

The results were actually pretty cool.

Lemons tasted like a really sweet lemonade.
Strawberries tasted WONDERFUL.
Grapes were a little sweeter but not much.
Limes were the sweetest of them all and tasted almost like a pixie stick.
Pickles tasted like relish.
kumquats were sweet on the inside but the rind was still bitter.

Broccoli tasted like broccoli.
Cauliflower tasted like cauliflower.
Cheese tasted like cheese.
Chocolate tasted like chocolate.

It said the results last up to 2 hours but it started to wear off after maybe 20 minutes. I'll admit, I got a little impatient waiting for the pill to dissolve so I chew it but I don't think that made much of a difference.

I have a bunch of those pills. The berry contains an active glycoprotein called miraculin. In essence it is a sugar so big that your taste buds can't recieve it. That's why it works with acidic foods better than non-acidic foods. The citric acid breaks down the super-long sugar into a sugar your receptors can taste. It's pretty fun, but lasts about 30 minutes. The more acidic foods you eat, the faster the sugar is broken down. Without a lot of acidic foods it will break down on its own in an hour or two, giving a little sweetness to non-acidic foods as it goes.
