Hey Guys

I'm researching a new design and one part of the plan is a distressed looking paint job. Over wood or somethign this would be easy, but since the case will be metal, it's a little wierd.

I'm planning on using some plastikote super enamel or other auto finish. The case will be primed with a self etching primer after sanding off all of the old paint. After a couple coats of primer and paint, I plan on letting it dry then taking sandpaper to it and distressing the heck out of it. In places I plan on taking it right down to the metal underneath.

I then plan on clearcoating the case and making her shine. But will the clear coat actually hold on the bare metal?

Any insight would be helpful

Thanks!

Wag

There are several mods here that have this look. I believe DOOM 3 even had some. Search the finished work logs sections for some ideas.

Any of the substances you want to adhere to your metal case will hold much better if you carefully scrub any and all oil or grease off of the case with rubbing alcohol or acetone. With it squeaky clean I think your coats will hold tight.
