Anyone wanna partake in a "competition" of before and after strength gains? I'm not truly looking for a competition but more of a motivator.

Anyone interested?

I'm not sure how we'd gauge it but I'm kinda thinking something like the first trip to the gym, experiment with weights and find which weight in each workout you can just barely complete a set of 10 with.

Write down your max 'set' weight for each workout then complete a 1 rep max for each workout after.

In x amount of weeks we will do the same thing and share our results.

Perhaps a pre/post body fat percentages would be an interesting addition as well.

I'll be doing this anyway, I was just curious if anyone in the community wanted to follow along with me. :)

Maybe simplify it and just have a weekly weigh in. Then map the percentage change and maybe give a prize to the person who looses the most weight over the time period.

Well it depends on the persons goal. I'm just doing it to prep for BT so I'm actually looking to gain weight.

I'm currently around 190lbs and would like to be a fairly solid 200 meaning I'm looking at a bulking and cutting phase ahead of me. I may be wrong but I believe the Air Force wants either less than 200lbs or under 24% body fat for a 20 year old male. I shouldn't have a problem with body fat though, hopefully.

The Air Force goes by height and weight if I remember right. At 5' 10" when I was thinking about going in I needed to weigh at max 174 lbs. At the time I was an even 200 lbs. So I needed to lose weight before I could head off to basic. Double check with your recruiter. They should of told you where to be at the ASVAP.

Well it's only been about 3 weeks but I've already began to see some pretty crazy improvements.

Dumbbell curl has gone from a set of 35lb to a set of 45lb.
EZ bar has gone from a set of 75lb to 100lb

I don't have a before with my standard bar but I have had the same weight on it this whole time. It has 2x50's on it and I used it for vertical rows and before was unable to curl it at all but I can now curl 120lbs x 2reps.

This is my new goal:

Push-Up/Crunch Super Set

Do five to 10 cycles of:

- Regular push-ups, 10
- Regular crunches, 10
- Wide push-ups, 10
- Reverse crunches, 10
- Triceps push-ups, 10
- Left/right crunches, 10 each side

The timed workout is another way to increase your push-ups and sit-ups that also helps prepare you for training with the clock -- good practice for the PFT. Being timed is what leads to most people's PFT anxiety.

Timed Workout

Repeat twice:

- 1 minute of push-ups
- 1 minute of sit-ups

Repeat three times:

- 30 seconds of push-ups
- 30 seconds of sit-ups

Repeat four times:

- 15 seconds of push-ups
- 15 seconds of sit-ups

Gyms are easy to find, but good gym partners are not. If you find a good gym partner, you'd be surprised how much fun going to the gym gets. Ask around, you'll get much more out of it.

I'd challenge you, but you'd never be able to keep up with my Atlas-like physique. ;)

Bah. I've got the body of a God (http://www.guidetoworlddomination.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/buddha.jpg).

Seriously, I need to get back in shape myself. I've never been one to really gain muscle mass, but rather tone up. I used to run a sub 6 minute mile (5:40 was my personal best), but those days are behind me sadly.

Bah. I've got the body of a God.

Heh, saw that one coming a mile away.

Personally, I just take to any exercise that involves real body control. People who lift weights, do martial arts, Yoga and the like will understand what I'm talking about.

I'm do weight training and Karate. My current schedule is the Gym twice a week, Squash once a week, Karate twice a week (in two separate clubs) and random workouts at home with my equipment. I'm in pretty good shape these days, especially considering the severity of the operation I had only two years ago next month.

Goes by fast doesn't it? 4 years for me this last January.

And for those who don't mind the thread hijack, Dave and I both suffered from the same disease and took the same treatment, albeit on other sides of the planet.

I know I had them but I have a feeling they were lost in a reformat on my old desktop since I didn't feel I would need them anymore. I have old pictures of myself though were you can see my arms were a lot smaller and zero definition.

As for before and after from the 2 months or so, no I don't have them although now I regret not taking them. Maybe I'll just use these for my comparison pictures from now until the end of bootcamp.

EDIT: New max curl as of May19: 135lbs on a standard bar.

New pushup cap is 50. When I began my max pushup rep was 20.

At least I think that's my new max. I did 48 in 37 seconds about 5 minutes after the original 50. I may be able to do 60 if I grunted through it. 20 fistups another 5 minutes later but stopped because my knuckles are bruised from the heavy bag.

195lbs this morning.
