Coming next is Thinner 2.0 which will be about 2 inches thick! The PSU, HD, and CD drive will all sit upright.

nice. but couldnt you make it alot smaller if you put the hdd in the top with the psu, and fittet a slim dvd drive sideways with the mobo.? :D

I dont think you could make it much thinner, since the cpu cooler will be the limiting thickness, and I personally wouldnt put the HDD up at the top with the PSU just for heat reasons. :) BUT.. I suppose a seperate, ventilated chamber at the top would be good for the hdd.. so you could make the height less..

Looks like it might need a bit of a stand to keep it from toppling over.
Reminds me of a stretched 1U rack server.

Those dimensional ratios look pretty close to a monolith. 1:4:9. You should make sure it has that ratio.

I'm still thinking of it.
I think with low profile (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186029) heatsinks the CPU cooler would be less thick than the PSU turned sideways

If it's a weighted base, that would probably do it.

If you remove the PSU from the housing, it could be a lot thinner.. depending on the hardware being used, you might be able to use a pico psu..?

I'll probably get a Mini ITX instead

The more I plan this, the more it starts to sound like a rackmount server/blade. I think I'll scratch it.

Well I liked the idea, in fact I have been thinking of trying to build an ultrathin case myself, for a media center. Although I need to wait until I finish some other projects first.

Hmm...rear panel connectors might diminish the look, however.
