On my compaq, the hard drive is mounted vertically instead of horizontally, is does this slow down the speed on it in any way. Also, there is absolutely no air going over the drive at all. They put it in the front of the case underneath tje floppy, dvd, and cd drives. I know it is Compaq but this doesn't seem right. I was thinking of taking everything and transferring it over to the Thermaltake case, it has plenty of fans.

i dont think any of that would slow it down in anyway.... but that seems like it would get hot after a while.... transfering it into the larger/cooler case would be better, but i dont think you'll see a huge difference

A Thermaltake case looks better. I'd move everything over anyways. :D

my mother had a compaq exactly like that with the HD mounted vertically. she did not like the case so i had her pick out a new one and transferred everything over switching the HD to a horizontal mounting position. there was no change in performance :p but it looked much better!! lol :D

Mounting the hard drive any way doesn't matter or effect preformace. It just common place to mount it horizontally.

compaq home computer are ment for light work not full out gaming. So having all of the drives with little air flow is not a problem as they don't get really hot just idling along.
