Now we're talking! Forget about all that extra 0.06GHz nonsense. I can't wait for these!
Now, what would you guys rather have? A 1.6Ghz Dual Core for Netbooks or a 2.0Ghz Single Core for Netbooks?

I second that "Dual..."

I third the Dual, I would rather be able to use multi threading than have more raw power. It's a netbook, most of the stuff Id be doing would probably be easily accomplished by the 1.6. Now if it was a 2.0 dual then id want it.

Why don't they use the dual core atoms in netbooks? Just a power consumption thing or is there more to it than that?
If its just a power consumption thing, why not just take one of those nine hour battery life netbooks and put one in there? It couldn't possibly lower the battery life below three hours could it? Hell, I'd even take one at two hours battery life. Its what every laptop I've ever owned has had.

Honestly, how many multi-threaded apps could you possibly be running on a netbook? Photoshop and video rendering are all I can think of. On a netbook? seriously?

It's not so much for multi threaded apps, but if it ran a multi threading OS then you could have more apps open at once. It's not uncommon for me to have a browser, chat client, and media player open at the same time. Throw on top of that the OS itself, a lot of college students would probably also have a word processor of some sort. I can see lots of reason for a dual core netbook, that is assuming the operating system can handle it. If I recall correctly Windows XP doesn't really utilize multi threading but i could be wrong.
Wrap it in to the Ion platform and Id be quite happy. : )

And that is my point. Netbooks don't come stock with multi-processor aware OS's. In order to take advantage of a dual core, you're going to have to wipe the device and shoe horn in another OS, probably a Unix derivative. The vast majority of netbook purchasers either can't or won't have any interest in such a tedious process. Oh, and good luck finding drivers.

why not....
I think the dual core thing comes down to size with a smaller size smaller heatsink ect...

I still find it funny that the actual CPU is smaller than the northbridge.

And the NB has a fan, the CPU is passively cooled.
