well I guess I will be an informant on what to look for in 2009 and beyond. This little article will tell about technologies soon to come, and some that have just come.

PCI-E 3.0

Just after the port standard of AGP came out its new competitor PCI-E was just around the corner and offering just that much more as in terms of data transfer. When 2.0 rolled around it had offered more than PCI-E and the transformation went much smoother, now its onto 3.0. This new industry standard will offer a 8/gbs transfer rate and be more efficent by 25%. The new slot will hit shelves by 2010 and expect AMD to be producing the cards first (non-biased oppion)

USB 3.0

USB 1.0 was one slow-ass connection, at 12MB/s you could expect to get a movie across in a few hours. With the expansion of 2.0 we saw rates of 480MB/s, so what could you think the data transfer rate of 3.0 will be? Ask and you will recieve, 5Gb/s can be expected of the new USB controller. The USB 3.0 will keep the same 'physical aspects' and will be compatible with USB 1.0 and 2.0. Expect it to come very soon but not to consumer electronics before 2010.

MotherBoard Chipsets

With upcoming technologies and AMD + Intel forcing northbridge capabilities directly into the CPU, the northbridge as we have known it will be gone in the upcoming months. AMD has intergrated the memory controller right into its newer CPU's and will continue to do so because of the rise in overclocking individuals. AMD and Intel have been researching technology to also put the GPU fuctionalities into the CPU itself. The northbridge has come to a time in place that it will no longer be needed, the controllers and graphics processing units will be intergrated elsewhere and will eventually become useless to have seperate.

AMD and the 45nm CPU's

Well with AMD behind the 45nm processor standard, it finds itself ahead of schedule with their own development. No facts have yet been recieved but future thinking within the company says 6 core CPUs will be here by the beginning of next year and 12 cores can be expected by the end of the same year. Crazy I know it, but it has also been said by the year 2043 the computer will be able to compete with the human brain, so who knows what could happen?

DDR4 RAM

Absolutely NO info, expect it to never come (just kidding but not anytime soon).

Well hoped you like reading and maybe it swayed you to wait to buy something which wouldn't be a bad idea. Thanks again!

I thought the next step in pci-e was pci 2.1, not 3.0?

I always hated that word, "jist". It just seems like a made up word to me...

All words seem like made up words to me... ;)

I can't wait for all of that stuff to come, but I'm especially looking forward to USB 3.0! Its gonna be soooo nice for external storage options.

Interesting info, nothing new here but something someone might find useful.

And your "B" 's should be "b" 's as its bits not bytes. Might not seem like much of a difference, but that's an 8x difference in transfer rates if someone perceives those b's as they are now.
