I've always been interested in it but a recent thread in the forums sparked my drive.
I understand Google is our friend but I would much rather go off of someone's first hand experiences.
My first question is how much does it cost to register an available .com, .net or .org? Who should I register it through?
Secondly, where would be a good source for pay per click advertisements?
Finally, how much of an investment before one would usually start seeing income? I understand there's no real number here but a realistic estimate would be great.

I personally use 1and1.com. Under $10 in most cases, sometimes .info's will be on sale for $0.99.
As for parking and ads, I don't really have any experience. Maybe someone else can help with that.
Registration - godaddy.com (search for promo codes)
Hosting - site5.com
I don't have any experience with parked domains.

Well. . you will need traffic to your site first.

I've found a domain name I think and it's going to cost me 70 bucks for a year for .com, .net, .me, .info, .mobl, .us and .biz.
Would this be wise if it were a good domain name? How would I sell it? How exactly does one transfer a domain name to another?
On top of that, how would you acquire a hit log? Does this mean I have to pay for hosting for each site?
EDIT: I decided to take a gamble and go through with it.

I found www.sedo.com and they offer a free parking service. I'm looking into it now. An auction would be a great idea too but I'm not sure which would be the best route yet.
Now it's all about getting listed in google.

You could always try the domain auctions.

If you use GoDaddy.com they have a domain manager.
You simply click on the domain name in question, and initiate
an account change or domain transfer.
