sooo... i wanted to make this for a long time, and suddenly got the magic idea i needed. this is no where near some sketches that i originally thought of. so i might make a revision of it later:)

the idea:

i am a sucker for space, really.. i love movies, music, series etc. and we all have massive storrage drives in our pc´s.
my main concern is, drives dont last forever.. sadly!. and then i thought
how often do you use your storrage drives? i mean... we have huge 1 tb drives in our pc´s that we fill with stuff and then it just sits there... windows can shut it down to save power and lifetime, but it still works most of the time.
soooo... why not just power them up when you need them?

that was what i did. bought one of theese

and a 1 tb western digital green disk.. but its ugly and the disk is not that great secured inthere + the print is free for fingers etc to hit...

so i took the old hard drive cage from my antec case and broke the hdd dock down.

had to cut some metal off the cage that was in the way. i think i will paint it black. but the plan is to make a acrylic shell for the whole thing.

i mounted the print so it aligned with the depth and hight the harddrive would go in with so that the sata and power connectors would fit just like a hot swap.

i only have a single drive that runs sata, but i think i will get myself a tb more or a 2 tb drive for this

this is how the drives fits in. if i need data on the second drive i just swap them around:)

the hot glue gun was used to secure the print.

A really sweet idea mate, wish I thought about something like that. You can then mount the switch anywhere for easy access.
