I just moved to Vegas and I'm looking for a cheap way to get around, but I don't want to throw my money away either. I've been looking for a Honda scooter on craigslist. My wife and I do a monthly budget and we decided that the most I can spend on a scooter would be $775. It is a little on the low end, but not a price I've never seen before. I emailed the lady. This is our interchange for this scooter: http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/mcy/1116920156.html

ME: I know that this is a low offer, but it's the best I can do. I am willing to pay $775 for the scooter. I can't do any better than that. Let me know if you don't sell it for more and you are willing to take $775 cash. Thanks.

HER: Im sorry but that offer is insulting considering the quality of the scooter. Perhaps you may want to look into a simpler model rather than a Honda.

The offer is more than a $1000 less than what I am asking and to be honest I am NOT desperate. If I paid over $1700 for the scooter - please be aware that considering the caliber of people I have encountered in this city LOW BALLING is expected but give me a break...

DO NOT BOTHER RESPONDING

ME: Well, I'm sorry to insult you with that low offer. The truth is that I can't afford it for more than that. Is it insulting that I live within my means? My parents bought two Honda Metros from the dealer at $1400 a piece. I've seen several Honda scooters back home in the $700-$900 range, including a 2005 ruckus just last month with 1200 miles for $800. I would have gotten it then, but shipping one here costs about $550. You should try not to be insulted so easily. $775 isn't an insult, and I am confident you will find someone willing to pay $1000. I wish you luck and a little more patience with those who make offers in the future.

HER: Well then maybe you should go back home. And besides that a brand new crappy scooter goes for what you can afford. Obviously you are not a local and dont know that the things you buy here in Vegas are much more expensive.

Patience? You have nerve - do not contact me again.

ME: Well, there is no harm in asking . . . except your pride. Hondas are nicer than the the crappy ones, that is probably why you bought a honda and it is why I am looking for one. For the most part things are about the same price as back home. I will find a honda scooter for $775, because I am patient. Have a nice day.

Why not save up for another month or 2. Then you could afford a used Ninja 250 and get 60+mpg and get from a to b much faster.

I'm really into the 50cc thing. I know that sounds weird. If I were going to spend more money, it would be on an Aprilia RS50. 75mph and almost 100mpg.

250 not 50. I woundn't own anything under 600cc but thats my personal preference. YOu can pick up a used 2003-2005 kawasaki ninja 250R for less than $1400 If you keep an eye open you can some times find them for right at a grand.

Make her an offer of $755. Keep antagonizing this *****.

Eh, I'll just let it be. If she gets really desperate, though, and emails me back I will offer $700 for it. I may have just gotten myself a job not even a mile from where I live. I won't need anything but some shoes to get to work and back.

Vegas hey? How is it? I've heard very mixed reviews on living in Vegas.

Well, there is always a police helicopter overhead, there are a lot of homeless people begging at intersections, a guy was shot and killed on my block a few days ago, and I went to drive to the store the other night and two police cars were driving down my street with their spotlights flashing around everywhere. I've only been here a week.

That said, I live in a somewhat bad part of town (near the strip but not on it). If you get away a little more the city is a lot nicer and much more conservative than people think. It's less "Sin City" and more "Sin That-one-street-and-the-area-around-it." I like it here alright. I think most people are just trying to get by and be happy. My neighbors are nice.

This part is new in her listing from when I first looked.

"No offer lower than $1000 will even be considered though...

DO NOT CONTACT ME WITH OFFERS OF $500 - $750. THAT IS NOT A REASONABLE OFFER. Understand that this is NOT a used up chinese made scooter like the ones you can get for $700 this is a HONDA. Honda scooters are very high quality. Vegas is not cheap people and you already know if you live here you pay more for what you want."

Did you really email her? I agree that everyone should contact her. Don't offer a penny over $775. Hahaha. Even better would be if someone here made a "Crappy Scooter" website since she talked about them in her emails. Then I could email her back and say that the MSRP of a Crappy Scooter is over $775. Kinda like this site:http://www.anuslaptops.com/

ya here is the convo thusfar.

ME: "hi, i am in need of a good scooter, so i offer you $755, can i also test drive it and get a full tank of gas when i buy it?"

HERSure and would you like a key to my house as well???????

ME:sure, that would make this one sweet deal. when can i come by? though i need the address first.
thanks.

HERwow could it be that i met a person with real sarcasm????

ME:as opposed to fake? ok i will change my offer to 774.47 and instead of a test drive and tank of gas a date?

I like a few things about this really.

1. "Let me know if you don't sell it for more and you are willing to take $775 cash." She could have just ignored me from the start.

2. "The offer is more than a $1000 less than what I am asking and to be honest I am NOT desperate." I never knew $850 was more than $1000. Someone offer her $850 for it and then when she is rude to you, use that quote and tell her that $850 is obviously more than $1000.

3. My first email to her was in no way insulting. My second was. She is so dumb that she spent $1700+ for it new when my parents got theirs for $1400. Haha. She probably felt a little dumb then. Someone should ask her why she has the price so high. Say you went into the dealer but they said the lowest they could go if you paid in cash was $1550.

I am enjoying this now.

Because I have no life:
-Offer her $999.95 for it!
-Also be as racist as possible, it's not chinese, it's japanese (who out sources it to china 8D), but it's still made by asians. What's the difference right? (My apologies to anyone offended by this line)
-That is a Honda, but this is a sparta
-What happens in Vegas, stays in vegas.
-You only pay more because more scammers live in vegas.
-Ask her if $450 is a resonable offer

That's all that comes to mind.
