Hi I would like to be able to select certain chapters from a dvd and rip them to my hard drive, and then add them to my video jukebox (classic movie scenes) I have tried magic dvd ripper which seemed to only let you rip the full movie. also tried freedvdripper which was not free ! Is there such a thing as a free dvd ripper ?

When using the full Magic DVD Ripper you can do title selection. It won't let you select time frame from say 1:51 to 2:53 and rip, but you can rip segments of the movie that is broken down into titles.

This is how it would look if you were to convert the DVD to AVI.

This is if you to select a title to convert. For this DVD, the 16:9 format is the previews/extras (from what I can tell when I converted a few). The 4:3 format were parts of the movie (again from what I an tell when I converted a couple).

Hi thanks I had M"agic dvd ripper" and it started to play up kept asking me to register even though I had ? Tried "anydvd" and it looked great at first but the audio was a second out of sync ?
So tried "Handbrake" and it got the sound right but the ripped picture ratio is a perfect square not 16:9 or even 4:3 just a perfect square ?

DVDFab is the one that I use. It's not free, but it is very good.

Omg, you don't know how well this works. I have 5x 250gb hardrives full of movies using this thing. All done within 4 hours, it rips a dvd at full quality (about 7gb file) in about 15-20mins.

I use DVD Decrypter and AutoGK. I can get a full HD Xvid DVD rip at 2GB :D. If your rip is out of sync use AVImux to sync the audio.

BTW I am pretty sure this thread goes against the forum policy of "no piracy".

He's not downloading or distributing movies, or anything like that.

True but it is giving people info on how to make their own copies. I got in trouble for asking why my copy of a pre release movie was playing upside down.

the whole deal over not being able to copy one's own media for personal use is pretty extreme in my opinion. I figure if one pays for something, he/she should be able to do whatever he/she wants with it. Whoever made whatever is being copied earned their money when it was purchased, and as long as one isn't distributing copies to other people illegally it (in my opinion) should be fine.

by the way, ever figure out why it was upside down? just curious lol.

Because it was an AVI rip from a pre release movie I had to run it through Xvid and convert it. I dunno, just flipped itself over lol.

I have nothing against this thread, don't get me wrong. I have copies of movies and CDs that I own, just to be safe. All I am saying is be careful where you take this.

thats weird. must have been a bad rip into avi that righted itself.

This thread is toeing the line. A definite gray area. Therefore, I'm locking it.

Sorry guys, but not here.
