Ok I was thinking of doing a raid so I’m backing up all the files on the 2 500gig wd drives that I’m currently using... now I want to use all my storage but I rather have speed if it means losine so mb so be it.. Now 2 questions

currently I’m doing vista with page file turned off since I have 8gigs of ram and its dam fast with boot and shutdown and loading things... so my question is...

Will doing a raid make a difference if there is no page file? Or should I just keep my main drive with vista empty and install stuff on other drive like I currently am or will raiding the 2 drives together make it faster?

Now 20 second boot from power off to full load vista is fast enough already... but will a raid make it faster for loading things as well? (so far everything loads quite fast)

and for those wondering specs

Asus p5k/Epu
Intel Q9550
ocz ddr2 1066 (2gigx4)
Ati 4870 512mb
Wd 500 gig black drives 2 (be the ones I raid)
segate 1tb drive (all dvd movies for media center)
Pioneer blu ray rom (dvd burner)
Lg dvd burner (Ide Master)
Plextaer dvd burner (ide slave)

Raid 0 will definitely make it a *bit* faster.

Wow, that's a pretty sweet system you have there.

RAID will make it faster. It's mainly noticable during gaming and other hard disk intense applications. Not sure whether you would notice much during bootup.

Can't imagine how well that system would run with Windows 7. The RC is out by the way ;)

well I used to have wd 130gig raptor drive in it.. and it was fast with vista.. but I wanted more space.. so I put that drive in my xp computer which is

Core 2 duo E6600 Oc to 3.2
Asus p5k (way diffrent then the p5k/epu can do 2 sticks of ddr3)
4gigs ddr2 800mhz ram (was in main till upgraded)
ati 4670 1gig card
wd 130gig raptor drive only os on it
3x 300gig maxtor maxlife drives sata (all 1 big drive)
lg dvd burner sata

Raid 0 will make things a bit faster. From the forums I've read where people have actually tested the speed increase from 1 HD or from a Raid 1, it's only a marginal difference. Then again, some people have said they really notice a difference. Physically, yes, it's faster.
