I've been buying precious metals for about 2 years now and have at least 3 lbs of silver and nearly an ounce of gold. I have silver items like antique silverware pieces that I'm thinking of melting down and turning into bars.

Ebay has these do it yourself furnaces (http://cgi.ebay.com/Furnace-Melt-Scrap-Silver-Gold-Pour-Bars-Ingots-Melting_W0QQitemZ310138809769QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCo ins_Bullion?hash=item4835b6ada9&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) for melting down your own metals. Has anyone ever done this or know anyone who has?

Looks like an eventual call to the Fire Department to me! J/K!

I have some friends that have small furnaces for lead, but they probably don't need to get as hot as it would for say gold or silver.

I would love to see some pics or video if you decide to go this route!

I have melted led in a Lee pot before. Dont know about silver or gold. Ebay Lee Led pot and you will find some. An alternative is a cast iron pot and a out doors cooker like one would fry fish on. Hook up the propane, turn it on high, let the silver melt, and pour into a casting hole of some sorts.

I figure I need about 20lbs of silver to make a Silver PC

That would be epic. Now's probably the time to buy... it's pretty cheap atm.

It's 14/troy oz. It was 11.50 a few weeks ago. You can pick it up for around a buck over spot from a number of companies. It spiked at the turn of May along with Gold and Palladium.

As long as the metal is clean there is really no reason to smelt it yourself. . its worth about the same amount either way. I suppose if you wanted to make some little bars or something you could.

Bars are so much nicer to look at though. If you're anything like me, looking at stack of bars is, in some twisted way, arousing.

The only problem is that machine costs nearly as much as the silver he's accumulated over the course of two years. I'd personally look into home smelting techniques on youtube and invest the money into more metal.
