Hey guys,

Hopefully this doesn't come off as spam or advertising, as it's definitely not my intent. I'm just curious if anybody is from around the Arizona or Colorado regions?

I help Intel run a nationwide series of charity PC gaming events called Intel LAN Fest which is gaining ground pretty quickly. CPU magazine recently joined forces with us and they are sponsoring a case mod contest that I thought you guys might find appealing.

There are two LAN Fest events which will incorporate the case mod coming up soon -- one 5/23 in Colorado, and one 6/13 in Phoenix. The contest will be pretty simple, just show up with the most creative, awesome, clean, well-thought-out case, and win an Intel Core i7 965 processor ($1k value). Each LAN Fest event winner (i.e. the individual winners from each site) then gets entered into the finals, and the final winner gets his case on the cover of CPU mag + an article about it in the mag + $1500. Pretty freaking sweet.

The site (lanfest.intel.com) has more info on the events, too -- like what kind of other prizes and contests will be there, gaming tournaments, etc. The admissions fee for the event ($25) goes to charity and Intel matches it so they get $50.

Anyhow, I hope you guys will consider coming to one of these, helping charity, and showing off your cases (and probably winning the contest, if what I've seen here is any indication of what we see there :)). If Phoenix or Colorado isn't in your range of travel, there are more LAN Fests across the country that will be scheduled for later (and each should have its own case mod contest and prizes).

Thanks :)

I think you're behind the times, TGS already won it!

Kidding! But sounds fun, hope all goes well for you guys.

Gotta convince the judges first :)

...I forgot to mention but the judges will actually be folks from CPU magazine, by the way.

Wow.. talk about crossed wires. Hahah

You guys are talking about 2 totally different things.

Vector is talking about some future events, and the others are talking about something that has already happened!

Vector read this thread.. http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18842

Might shed some light on what they are talking about. :D

Aha! That does clear it up.

I think if you've won something through CPU magazine before, it probably disqualifies that same case at the LAN Fest events (I'll double check), but TGS if you have a different machine you'd like to enter in, this would be a chance to possibly win not only that Core i7 that each site will get, but also ANOTHER article in the magazine and another $1500.

Something to think about anyhow :)

Oh, and DrumThumper -- haha, no worries bud, since this is all for charity we don't discriminate on brand preference. In fact, about 2-3 years ago when AMD was in its prime, we did a survey and more of the LAN attendees had AMD machines than Intel. The Inq found this funny enough to write an article on it (that was before the LAN Fest name was adopted and we just called it DesertBash) (http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1043146/intel-sponsors-a-lan-party). So if you find it appealing at all, come as you are, the case mod contest will not be judged by Intel folks so it won't be biased. :)

If I was closer, I would consider it. Being in Montana has its drawbacks on occasion.

Ahh, but you have the blue sky to make up for it... ;)

Just a friendly reminder that the Colorado charity event is this weekend. I haven't heard much buzz about the case mod contest in the LAN Fest forums so this could really be an easy win of a Core i7 965 for somebody who's a little more hardcore with their modding :)

And the Arizona event is less than a month away too, another good shot at a free proc.

Other events are now announced in Sacramento and up in Massachusetts too, each with their chances to win (maybe I should change the thread title).

Hope some of you will come out and show off your stuff. 8)

Last time I'll plug this charity event and then I'll leave you guys alone :)

I get the impression that there wasn't a lot of case mod competition at the Colorado event, so somebody walked off with a Core i7 965 without having to put much effort in.

The Arizona charity event -- which is this coming weekend on 6/13 -- will almost surely be the same story, so if you know anybody in the Phoenix area or are willing to do a little traveling with your best mod, don't forget about this contest! :)

Thanks again guys.
