I do a lot of printing in black ink. With receipts, contracts, forms, etc its getting expensive to change the ink in my canon printer. The printer was designed with photo printing in mind and nothing about it is cheap. a black cartridge runs me $30 and I may get 300 sheets out of it.

So what is the printer out there with the cheapest black ink? It does not have to be fancy because its just going to print b&w documents. I would go the laser route but can not justify spending $200+ just to print docs.

I keep seeing those Kodak printers on TV and now they have them in Wal*Mart for $89. Suppose to printer more then regular printers and the black carts are $10.

Ink (http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=10600&pq-locale=en_US) I'll see if I can get a model number off the printers at my local Wally world, its not showing up on the site.

The canon ip1500's ink cartridges are less than $10, but the actual inkjets are separate from the cartridge. The print quality is not the best, but is acceptable.

as long as it will print #12 font text on a piece of paper I am cool with that. Is that canon the little portable one that is grey and blue? If so they use one of them at one of the colleges I shoot for. The use it to print box scores after games for the media. Its tiny and I like it.

No, it is grey and black. My HP deskjet is great and has black ink for about $30 that lasts quite a while. The canon cartridges (for the ip1500) are great for refilling.

You're spending more than that right now if you're foung through the ink fast.

I have an extra canon ip1500, but I would have to see if it works first.

Forget ink. Toner, ftw.

Minolta makes some nice color laser printers.

laser by far is the cheapest per page...

Here's some that are not too expensive (http://www.geeks.com/products_sc.asp?cat=695) start at $72us

I've got a color laser printer, well worth the $500 it cost, it's been running almost 2 years been through many cases of paper, and on it's second set of toners... LOVE IT (it cost so much because I wanted duplexing (dubled sided printing in one pass) and it had to do legal (8.5"X14"), and network ready, love the always there option:) and we wanted an HP )

If you go to Ebay be careful, many of the sellers pull the toner before the sale to make more money, so you get a printer for $30-$50 less then the office store, and you have to go out and drop $50-80 more on toner....makes the office store cheaper!!!

The ink in my HP Deskjet 1220C lasts forever (not quite), and the quality is comparable to that of a laser jet. I've gone through a few reams of paper on one set of ink cartridges (black is starting to get a little light, but no streaks). Prints to huge paper too. Best part about it was that it was free (garbage find).
