This is a link (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/20/brandindex-microsofts-ads-effective/) to a Mac site that claims that Microsoft is being effective at winning over customers with their new commercials. Then the Mac dorks get all defensive (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/18/we-get-it-windows-means-cheap-hardware/)

"the numbers come out the same"
Thats a joke, you can buy a $1600 mac with the same hardware as a $1000 pc.
Tell me which you would rather have.

I know which one I want.

Based on specs, that 'PC' Laptop wins over the 'MAC' Laptop. But one thing you may have slightly over looked is the weight of the 2 designs. I prefer a cheap (ish) laptop with alright graphics (anything not intel), dual core, 4GB of RAM, Vista (7 is still better) and a good battery life. I love hybrid tablet PCs though.

My thoughts in windows vs. MAC. Yea, cheap hardware, so the family down the street[on food stamps] can actually afford a computer too.
You can buy a much lower end pc for around $289.99, and the lowest a mac laptop will go is $1000.....we missing something here?!?!?!?!
Any mid-high end laptop will kick the **** out of a mac stats wise. Performance really depends on what a user does with it + how they use it.
$1999 (Macbook pro) vs $1799 (alienware m15x; 1200p; 9800gt; fightingmachine!)

Yeah thats part of it though, you can get what you want, if you want a tablet, then you can buy one. Its amazing they even compete. You take one side that offers 1000s of products and the other side has what, 6. So you a pc you can get what you want, and for cheaper.

I think I would rather go with the Mac though. I'm not a fan of either (basically it's just two different operating systems, and one computer is built in-house rather than by a large umbrella of companies), but on looks and ease of use I would have to go with the Mac. It comes preloaded with some great software, and price-wise, it is about the same as a PC when you think about it, as the Mac comes with many programs pre-installed (Windows has the utilities, some free stuff, Windows Live, annnnd a web browser). It's just a different way of doing things (Although I will always dislike the iPod (excluding the iPod Touch; those are alright)).
The last time I really and truly liked a PC was Windows 95, and I don't think that will change. Right now, my PC is running its seventh install of Windows Vista (BSODs, didn't like RAID drivers, registry errors, etc.). I'm kinda tired of dealing with it.

That's retarded. You still have to buy MS Office for MAC's too

Macs have their own office suite that costs around $50 for a single license, if I remember correctly. M$ Office is around $500 for all of it, which is just plain retarded.

Open Office hasn't let me down, on my PC's or my macbook. Then again I'm not a hardcore user, just enough for college use. Either way, saves me some money and it works. No sense paying for a product when a free one does what I need, even though I can get a lifetime license through my college for 20$ for top end MSOffice.
I got a great deal on my macbook when I bought it two years ago. Just wish they had the 9400 chipsets included back in 07. Then again I don't game much on it at all. Stoked that today I found some old dos/mac games in a bucket in the closet though. Oregon trail, Amazon trail 2, Mega Race, Pipe Mania, and Dinosaur Safari should be enough to keep me entertained for a little bit =).
I could care less about the commercials though, on either side. I don't watch much tv anyway, less it's food network channel. I do my research and buy what I want. Macbook, money off, free printer, free ipod were enough to get me onboard. Especially having OSX, Windows, linux all available to me on one laptop for dev stuff was great too.

But PCs dont come with a loop and sound editing studio, a photo program with facial recognition and built-in tools to correct separate lighting and hues, or an easy automatic backup solution that is off your computer. Also, the new M$ Office is confusing, and costs 300 dollars. Anyone in their right mind would either try to find an old license to Office '03, or just get Open Office, or just get iWork '09, which is around 50 bucks.
The big difference is that M$ is taking a step back, and Apple is taking a step forward. It's still a step, but in the wrong direction (especially after XP). The PC used to be an easy machine that didn't bitch at you when you did something simply wrong. I used to love our old Micron Millenia with 16 MB of memory and a 2 gig harddrive. It just did things, and that was that. Now in the complex and dangerous operating environment everyone is attempting to understand, some profoundly small program attempts to run. A dialog box pops up in its flashy swagger and says "Hey, baby. Want me to help you with that?" If something goes wrong, the machine restarts, attempts to boot, restarts, attempts to boot, and so on ad infinitum, until you get angry and format over it with Ubuntu. Then, Ubuntu gets boring, so you have to go out and get another 200 dollar license because you lost the recovery disk, pop it in, install everything over again, just to have the same problems.

But not everyone uses all that stuff. Say if for some reason the world was turned upside down and I bought an Apple. I'd have hundreds of dollars in applications I would have absolutely no use for. Sony is like that too. Their computers cost at least $200-$300 more than their PC conterparts because of the 20 extra programs they throw into it.
I would rather have the right to choose what my extra cash goes towards.

Not everyone needs to buy MSOffice under that notion.
I will concede that it is the current benchmark suite leading the pack, but doesn't mean it is necessary for everyone, especially with open source alternatives available.
Retail copies of Office 07 Standard go for $300 on newegg, and that's only Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
I've never understood the bashing of prices either. Some of their products are quite absurdly priced, yes, but I bought my macbook brand new at the apple store for about the same as an equivalent rig at Best Buy (I worked there at the time), or through their outlet sources, and I got a $200 ipod and an HP all-in-one for free. Then again I shopped around and used certain discounts and promotions to my advantage. For me though, its the fact I can work , legally, in more different OS environments than I could on a pc. IF osx86 was legal, or apple would license OSX/Classic to PC's then I probably wouldn't have worked so hard looking for such a deal on the macbook to be honest though.
