View Full Version : Am I wrong for being upset?

I went hiking with a buddy, his dad and his cousin today.

I took some shorts to go swimming in so I put my pants, shoes and sunglasses in a pile on a large rock where we were staying. I was up-stream when they yelled for me to come back and we'd be leaving soon...

they put away my stuff and I asked, did you grab my sunglasses? They said yes, they're in the backpack.

Well, they weren't in the backpack and all I got was "damn man, sorry 'bout that..."

Needless to say, I'm pissed off and feel they owe me 100 bucks. I haven't came out and said that I feel they owe me yet but they know I'm fuming. I wanna see if they offer to replace them before I mention anything.

Don't touch my ****ING stuff!!!!!

IMO, you are absolutely right to be upset, and if it will cost $100 to replace them then yes that's what they owe you. I'm the same way, my stuff is my stuff. They said they were in the pack and you took them at their word.

To replace them now it'd be $98.93. I paid $120 or so for them a while back.

My buddy told me "that pisses me off" and I said "pisses YOU off? all I got was a damn, that sucks... sorry bout that." He said, "what else is there to say?" so I said "how about, "damn man, don't worry, I'll replace them."

He laughed and said, "They're your sunglasses... not our responsibility." I told him it became their responsibility the second they touched them. He said I should have double checked rather than taking their word for it.

His dad is driving over to his cousin's house to see if he accidentally put them in his cousin's backpack... if not I'm out a pair of Oakleys.

I have to question your sense in spending $100 for a pair of sunglasses in the first place, but that is what it is. That's what they cost and they told you from (your first post) in no uncertain terms that they had taken care of them for you. You're right here, now the question is how far do you let it get between you and your friend, and that is entirely up to you.

I'll let it go but I will definitely not look at him the same way(as in he's not borrowing or using anything of mine with any sort of value). I have high morals... If I do anything to anyones possessions, accident or not, I'll immediately offer to replace or repair whatever I did.

If it was the same situation, only his wallet was missing, I'd ask, "how much was in it, what kind of wallet was it, did you have any giftcards?" ...but I guess not everyone thinks that way.

Yea you have a right to be upset. My sunglasses cost several hundred dollars, but they are prescription. Because my eyesight sucks and I always have glasses on I feel it is worth it to buy expensive designer frames. That is the only thing expensive I wear though.

I have 3 pair of Oakleys and I agree with you. The second they touched them to "move them" they assumed 100% responsibility for the shades well being. I can't wear cheap sunglasses because none of them fit my face right. The only shades that I have found to fit me perfect is Oakley Dartboards which are out of production now. I also have a pair of Oakley Eye Jackets and a second pair of never touched dartboards. All in all they are worth between $100 and $150 a pair so if someone was to pack them up for me and they get lost I would be pissed.

He offered to drive me back there (about an hour drive) and I took him up on the offer.

I jogged down about a half mile or so from where we were parked and there was a big group there. I asked one of the guys and he said he hadn't seen any. Meanwhile a group of girls were screaming at me to come have a drink with them and asking me if I was single... it was different. I turned around and immediately my eyes locked onto my sunglasses about 40' away. They had been there for a good two hours! I told them GTG and took off.

What?? Forget the sunglasses! GIRLS! BOOZE! This is a no-brainer man! :D

Glad to know that you got your sunglasses back. The same thing happened to me with my pair of O's. They were only like $69.99 (might of been on sale, can't remember), but they got left behind at a local beach. I went back the next day but they were long gone.

I only spend about $30 at most on sunglasses now. They seem to break or get lost too easily in my hands. lol

If it were me I'd consider the matter resolved in that case. He did what he could to rectify it and you were able to recover what he lost. Glad everything worked out.

On the matter of the girls....

I'm not single otherwise of course it's a no brainer! Beer and a pack of 7-10(4 were single as one yelled), 20-25yo women in bikinis screaming for you? No man would turn that down.
